"P.S. Technically, a helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces and controls working in opposition to each other. " All true. However, you forgot the primary reason they stay in the air. It's not that they are "flying". It's that they are so ugly, the earth just repels them <LOL>, and no, I don't believe that one. I happen to think they are pretty neat looking, at least the ones that don't have the name "Robinson" on their sides. They ARE ugly (sorry Robinson)!! But they sure are "interesting" to fly . Of course, the fact that I work in a hangar next to a helicopter repair centre/charter outfit, and that we do installations on helo's ourselves has absolutely no bearing on my thoughts on this

Well, others refer to it as inverted, hovering lawn mowers ;-) But admittedly, they are amazing flying machines that makes one wonder how they got invented in the first place since they are very challenging to control and fly. Sue, no offense meant or not being condescending, just clarifying misconceptions, if any, FWIW. Ask any rotorhead ;-)
Agree Bushpilot, I had my first stick time with an R44. They would look better inside if they replaced that T-bar cyclic with traditional, curved ones.

Hold up. "Clarifying misconceptions". That's a good one.

"misconception" - does this mean the rabbit didn't die?

Two helocentric quotes that stand out for me are:
"If God had meant man to fly helicopters, he'd have given him more money..." and "Flying a helicopter is the most fun you can have with your hand between your legs and not go blind!"
