I see OpenLC Europe is up on the Orbx site now and listed as "Soon". I'll be interested to see if they hold the pricing to what they were saying back when it was first announced (around $19). If so, I suspect I'll pick that one up. Should be interesting and hopefully an indication of what will be coming for North America. Now, if we could only get Vector 1.2 so we get our lakes in Canada back!

I've been very interested in the OpenLC stuff, I'm keen to see what differences it makes combined with Global. I've been wanting to get Vector, but I'm not going to pull the trigger on that until 1.2 is out and seems to resolve some of the major issues out there. I'll stick with UTX for now.

On June 2 Mr V. announced - "This means it will be priced at AU$38.95 (US$32, Euro 25, £20)". Age 65 or over, 20% off at the Flight Sim Store.

That's quite a hike from what they gave as the price originally. Over 1.5 times the original. Guess I'm not getting Europe. I'll see when NA comes out. If I decide not to, I'll go back to UTX.
Thanks for the info.

I wonder if the LC by itself will work and if so, would it be better than UTX?

Sort of what I figured. Well, maybe one day.

I would only be interested in the NA LC, and only if I hear that it is well done.
I'm tired of LC products that mess up things as much as they fix up things; the last LC I tried missed the City of Nanaimo!

Yeah. And go have a look at Toronto Island (CYTZ) if you have Vector. 90% of the islands are missing. Completely. And now they are charging more than 1.5 times the originally announced price?
I need to think about what I'm doing in this hobby.

I need to think about what I'm doing in this hobby. I'm in that position as well; it's very telling that I have reinstalled FSX three times in as many weeks.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid that. Next time FSX comes off, it's not going back on. Not sure if I'm "there" yet, but I'm a LOT closer now than I was several months back. We shall see... .

Are you considering P3D2? (I've been going through one of my phases of "maybe it's worth a try" lately. )

No Fritz, I'm not. P3D2 is still a 32 bit program, and while they might stretch the capabilities a bit, it's still severely restricted in terms of how far they can go with it. Until the entire program is rewritten for 64 bit, we are going to be under the same constraints as we are in FSX (with a few minor exceptions). You're basically buying FSX a second time but without all the bugs worked out and with a number (albeit a decreasing number) of add-on's already paid for having to be repurchased or not working. Don't get me wrong, I'm not down on P3D at all. It is the future (but only a bandaid fix until the 64 bit version is written), but at this point there's not nearly enough incentive for me to "start over" with something that's barely better than what I currently have and with fewer add-on's available for it. Unfortunately, by the time the 64 bit version is written, I'll be long past simming so it's a moot point for me, thus FSX is "it" I'm afraid. When I tire of it, I'm done with simming .

Just for grins concerning the cost of EU LC see this post at ORBX. www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/79567-openlc-eu-final-pricing/page-6#entry748246Here is a cut n' paste of the posts. (First a quote from JV was included) "John Venema, on 02 Jun 2014 - 07:45 AM, said: .....Of course, this will make some of you unhappy but the reality is we're running a business and all our projects need to turn a profit at the end of the day. " (this was the post with the quote above) "It's understandable that some may feel they've been slightly misled here, John. Many who spent £55 on Global and £35 on Vector - as well as a possible £45 on the Pilot's mesh like I did - would have done so with the intention of finalising this investment with openLC at what was originally priced at approximately £80 for the entire planet. Including the Pilot's mesh (which is worth every penny and is almost essential for Global to really shine) this investment would have cost approximately £215; a reasonable chunk of cash for the package I was getting, but not a package that I personally wanted to pay more for. But now we're told that the openLC packs have effectively doubled in price, and to own the entire Global package, with Pilot's mesh, it'll cost us (with current exchange rates) approximately £285, AU$520, US$490, Eu360. And that's presuming the other six regions sell for £21. Of course, there will be people that state we're getting the whole globe for such and such cost, blah, blah, blah, but the investment I originally bought into is now going to cost me at least £70 more, which is a significant extra cost. I understand you have to make money, John, I run my own business and I can't carry out work for nothing, and I'm not having a go at you, but in future it would be wise to not state, "Each openLC pack will cost less than AU$19 (£11.50 / €13 / USD17.50). Final pricing has not yet been determined yet, but it won't exceed AU19 per pack.", until you've properly evaluated the actual required work involved in such a large project. I'm sure the entire Global package will transform the world into a beautiful place to fly, but it'll have cost me almost £300, so I expect nothing less. I hope the release of EU openLC runs smoothly for you guys. " (Then JV answered) "That was written over a year ago when the product was in gestation and was going to be a simple 1km x 1km landclass addon using just FTX Global textures plus a few new classes. Development time/cost was then measured as 90 days. Now we have effectively added 600 new unique, triple the initial number, and it has taken three times as long as initially thought. So please be grateful I have not tripled the cost. If you don't see the value, don't buy it, simple as that"

Spud, I tried your link but I just get the "You do not have permission to view this forum." message. That would be the downside of not being a John Venema fan.
