Well, I'll start this off by saying this will probably be the only fully serious post you'll see from me here. All I say below is in all seriousness with no joking around (sadly).
A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis in the neck. What this means is that the vertebrate are collapsing in on each other and my spinal cord has been trapped between the bones. The bad news is, this will lead to full quadriplegic status in time, and indeed that process has begun. The good news is though, they now have a surgical procedure that is pretty quick (1 hour on the table), extremely effective in stopping (and possibly reversing) the damage, and carries minimal risk. As such, I'm scheduled for surgery this coming Thursday. Obviously this isn't something I'm particularly looking forward to, but to be honest, the pain I've been under and the creeping numbness I've had over the past 2 or 3 years, and with some loss of mobility of late, I welcome the relief that this is supposed to bring. While the surgery is short, the recovery is very painful initially due to the fact they have to actually cut muscle in my neck. That's the painful part that's going to take some time to heal from. I will be off work for 4 weeks, although I hope I'm sitting up and being reasonably mobile after a week or two. I'll have to be very careful how I move my head in the process, but it's possible I'll be able to spend short periods of time at the computer after a week or so. We shall see, but it's highly unlikely you'll see any sign of me for at least a week starting Thursday Sept 3. Not to be maudlin (but this is surgery after all...), my sister will have access to my account should anything go amiss and she'll update things if need be. Her name is Marion. Suffice to say if she makes a post here (under the signature of Marion but in my account), it won't be good news. Anyway, I'm not expecting things to go that route at all.
Not that this matters squat to others, but as long as I'm rambling, my simming after this surgery will likely be very different to what it has been. I'm paring down and getting rid of a lot of things that I don't use or like very much. My aircraft will probably be limited to A2A, Real Air, F1, FR, and that may be about it. It'll be all smaller GA stuff and probably no ops involved, although Air Caribou will continue in some form. I may be an absentee owner much of the time though. So I'll still be posting screenies from time to time, and probably on here as much as ever, but the longer PIREP's and whatnot are likely in the past for the most part. You never know though, but at this point I think low and slow is more my speed now.
Anyway, that's it boys and girls. It'll be an interesting fall, if nothing else. Thanks for reading.
