This 'Opus' weather engine has been fascinatingly accurate. A recent cold front traveling east over the Olympics prompted me to launch from the Quillayute airport, fly down the coast to the mouth of the 'Hoh' and turn upriver. The frontal trailing edge was right there and my foray was short lived but weather depiction was right on. Turning up the 'Hoh' - looks discouraging. Still some maneuvering room but ah hae ma doots. As someone once said "Let's do a three sixty and get the hell out of here".

Nice stuff Dave ! Seems to me though, that a 180 might get you out faster Cheers, Carm. PS. What scenery systems are you using there ? Global, Vector etc ?

Yep. That's getting a little scuzzy alright. I missed out on a 206 flight (Bell) once because my buddy flying for a company had to go and get a couple of people out of a camp in the hills in weather like that, and he didn't want anyone on board that didn't absolutely have to be there. He got them, but he had to back out of one little pass and hang a right until he found one he could get through. Fun stuff carm - my guess would be that's PNW he's using there

carm,
"What FTX Global Does If you are reading this User Guide you have likely already installed FTXG and perhaps taken your first flight to discover the difference. However for the sake of providing a documented definition here is what FTXG does: • Replaces all the default landclass textures located in \Scenery\World\Texture with custom Orbx FTX textures • Installs FTX Central and other supporting apps into the \ORBX folder. FTX Central and these other apps help manage all Orbx addons including FTXG, FTX Regions and FTX Airports and we’ll cover them in more detail later • Adds 3D lights to all vector main roads all over the world. These can be turned on and off using FTX Central (see page • Makes corrections to the base landclass for some parts of the world, particularly in SE Asia • Adds 3D lights to all textures all over the world. These can be turned off and on during dawn/day/dusk using the FTX Lights Day and FTX Lights Night apps So the difference between what you had before and after FTXG is quite remarkable; we like to compare it to a complete simulator upgrade.
What FTX Global VECTOR Does If you are reading this User Guide you have likely already installed Vector and perhaps taken your first flight to discover the difference. However for the sake of providing a documented definition here is what Vector adds for the entire world: • Accurate coastlines, rivers, lakes and other water bodies. Vector uses new shoreline and beach textures to add more realism which provides a more integrated and natural appearance • Motorways, freeways, main arterials roads, roundabouts – all with moving vehicle traffic and specific underlays and skirtings to blend in better with landclass textures • Golf courses, city parks and forests • Extrusion bridges and tunnel entrances • Tram lines where applicable, railway lines and railway yards • Power lines using default models • Corrected airport elevations for all default airports • Ports and docks concrete textures
So the difference between what you had before and after Vector is quite remarkable; we like to compare it to a complete simulator upgrade, similar to the huge improvement FTX Global BASE’s textures provided."
Above is cut n' paste from the respective user manuals. While Global will make the FSX world look 100% better (IMHO) with the new LC textures it does not affect the ORBX 'full fat' regions that much so would be too evident in screen shots. Outside of the full fat regions the differences are remarkable though. VECTOR again has a much increased effect outside of the 'full fat regions' as well making the shorelines and roads etc. much more accurate than FSX crummy default scenery. Speaking of the FSX world "outside" of ORBX regions is where the differences are very noticeable compared to the vast wasteland that default FSX exhibits.

Yeah, but Global and Vector won't have any effect in a fat area. Trees will I guess though. In essence Global, Vector and LC are built into the fat regions.
