I had my post-op follow up exam yesterday and the doctor gave me a clean bill of health. I asked if he knew when we'd know the surgery was a success and he said he knew the minute he unpinched my spinal cord from the vertebrate. He said as soon as he freed it up, it started pulsing just like it's supposed to (really?? ). Apparently it was really pinched in quite a few places and I'm guessing I was pretty lucky that I never had any paralysis up to that point. My weight restriction is lifted (goodie - now I can get back to taking photographs!!) and as long as I'm careful, I'm good to go. I will have to start physio for my lower back issues and we'll see how that goes (it was for my lower back that I went to the doctor in the first place - the discovery of the neck problem was found quite by accident, but was much, much more serious and urgent than the lower back problems). Anyway, things are going well, and while my neck is still pretty stiff and I'm going to have "weird" symptoms in my shoulders and arms for a while yet, things are progressing very well. FYI

Great news indeed. Just remember to not "overdo" and give yourself time to completely heal. My son's back surgery was apparently completely successful as well and he is back working albeit at a slower pace for now.

Hooo, boy, this is a fine day!! Great news, Glenn! It's icing on the cake for myself as I just got back the results from my annual exam and I am still cancer free! Not to mention that a good friend of mine, who had undergone radiation therapy for throat cancer just got his results back and he, too, is in remission! A good day, indeed.

Scares me when I read things written by you that have the words "pulsing" and "stiff"! Glad to hear the good news!

Surgeons are a bit like pilots - some are better than others. Yours sounds like a winner and you're well on your way back to your previous level of mischie///activity.

Thanks guys, and Fritz/Spud - that's great news on your ends too! Good to hear. @don - and so it should @fritz - I don't NEED to brag <hehehehe> @dave - yes, he's not only a top notch surgeon, but he is willing to sit down with you and answer your questions and actually listen to you. That makes him among the best in my books, and I told him so. The last time I was in for major surgery (much scarier than this), the surgeon didn't have any time at all for me, and I saw him briefly for about 2 minutes several days after the surgery. He was "in a hurry" so I never got any answers to any questions, including was I over the fear of Meningitis, which it looked like I had a couple of days after the surgery. This was a refreshing and welcome change.
