I thought Don had hosted the 185 files on the old site which is still in existence here but I'll be darned if I can find a download area. I suppose they could be long gone from that site.

Here's the 'readme' on the file I mentioned to Carm.
C-185 new Flight model.
This 'upgrade' is based on the excellent Carenado 206 as many RW pilots mentioned that it's very similar to the 206. Only a few items in the 206 air file had to be changed, mainly concerning 'feel and inertia' but more important, to be able to perform 'real' brake stand take-offs. (Much more had to been changed in the cfg file.) Drag/Lift adjustments etc... All the changes concerning constant speed prop behaviour have been done by Glenn Davy. BTW, he was the guy who rather unintentionally persuaded me to redesign the 185 FDEs from scratch and most input during the development came from him.Thanx a lot! These FDEs have been tested by quite a few real bush pilots at bushpounder.com. Final adjustments and corrections have only been possible due to their input. Thank you! And last but not least thanks to Carenado for their superb planes. If their 206 wouldn't have such realistic FDEs, redesigning the 185 would have been a MUCH more dufficult task!

Maybe someone is telling me something, like--its time to bite the bullet, clean house and go Global and Victor etc. Oh me aching Visa account We'll see what happens. Carm.
Hang tough for a couple of months then they'll be on a Christmas sale which, along with your 'old farts' discount, will make the pill easier to swallow.

That's the one. You can get them here. Go to the Downloads section and they are right on top. A copy of the guide is there as well.

I think there's an echo around here.

Yeah, I knew about your post Fritz, but I wasn't sure if the link Don gave me via PM was the same so I thought I'd post it just in case. But I don't hear any echo anyway, unless I'm talking to myself

Bottom line - does everyone have the 'Ultimate 185' now? Don't wanna see anything less than ultimate.

The file that I have is "ultimate_185" and as far as know has only been released on Don's site. It has different FDE's for all the versions. Here is the README from that release.
These configs and airfiles were modified by Bernt Stolle. They were beta tested by several people, one being a real world bush pilot with many hours in type. These are now the most realistic files offered for the Carenado C-185 to date. Please enjoy. To make installation easier, do one at a time, and stay focused!
After this download was posted, I seem to remember that all of a sudden there were 100 new members here, almost overnight. All they wanted were the new FDE's, and were never heard from again. Sorry, don't mean to go on and on but the 185 story is interesting, my view.

That is correct Fritz. Carenado didn't take into account the extra drag and weight of the floats vs the amphib vs the wheeled models. So each version was adjusted individually to reflect those differences. I don't know of anyone else who was a bush pilot who tested it. As far as I know, Bernt and I were the sole people working on these files at the time. You're right about the sudden influx of new members . I remember that as well. Oh well... .

They must have been here on the 'thirty day free trial'. Just checked my 185 - I'm patched, optional patched and ultimate.
