Once we got the guests settled at the main camp on Bearskin, it was time to round up the 8 bodies for the trip up to our Severn River camp. The camp is a large outpost on a long-ish lake about 30 nm south of Severn River proper, which itself is located on Hudson Bay, and consists of 2 large wall tents for sleeping/living in. At some point we'll run the guests up to Severn River so they can see a true, sub-polar northern town. Our weather for this trip would be overcast to broken, mostly at 3000 ft so we'd have no trouble making the entire trip at 2500. The land is very flat and very low so we didn't have to worry about obstacles on the way. The nice thing was the air was smooth, and still relatively warm for this time of year at 20*C to 15*C at our destination. The flight would be in the Twin Otter, which would stay with the group for the 4 days they were to be up on the Severn. Their main target were geese on the fall migration. So, off we went for a fairly routine flight. At our main camp on Bearskin getting ready to load for the run to Severn River All we needed was 2500 ft and we were good This was pretty typical of the scenery all the way there, except there were fewer trees up that far. Our camp is just this side of those two little ponds at the north end of Severn Lake Down and parked. I checked out the gear like canoes and whatnot and got the fire going while the guide helped get the guests settled. It promised to be an interesting week

Nice PIREP Glenn! I keep forgetting about the new Twin Otter. It's been a long time since I've flown the old one, maybe I need to check out the new version finally -Scott

Thanks Scott. If you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, the new version might be an ok buy. Just be aware that it's not what they set out to make (best engine and flight dynamics of any airplane, or even a big improvement over the old model). Now, the graphics are MUCH better (although I'm less enamoured with the floats on the 300 model) and you do get a lot of configurations for the aircraft. You do get some really good value for the $$$ in that respect. Be aware though that the engine dynamics are probably the worst there is in any FSX model I've flown. The delay from throttle to response is almost unbelievable so setting your power settings is often an exercise in both patience and frustration. They also missed the mark big time on the STOL characteristics of the flight model. I'm not saying don't get it, but you need to be aware of what you are getting. Should you choose to get it, let me know and I'll send you my mods which at least help in the STOL dynamics considerably. I can't do anything about the engine dynamics unfortunately. Good luck with your decision.
