Me old HP has finally give up the ghost. The lastest is that it will not run FSX. It tells me the Video card is Kaput etc. I've been putting this decision off for quite a while but can't any longer. So !! I did some digging this AFT and It looks like another mortgage on the house Any suggestions you chaps can give me about what to go for, would be appreciated. I'm a little up in the air over which OS to go for. I'm very leary about Windows 8. Cheers, Carm.

Carm - I've done business with this outfit (Tiger Direct) and they do what they say. build-your-own-computer.org/computer-kits.html not quite of the art - not too many years behind but it'll do the job with FSX. The DIY part is easy like lego toys with smoke .

Thanks for the tip Dave. That site is a goody---full of info. But, I think I'll have a pro build my machine. I don't need the anxiety, besides if it doesn't work, I can blame some one else Think I'll go with 7 Pro rather that 8 or 10 as an OS. We'll see what happens. Carm.

Do people still have any choice about an OS now that Windows 10 has been released? I'm guessing that 7 and 8 will continue to have a supported shelf life for no more than 5 years. That's the way it worked with XP.

Hey, Dave, I'm getting a 404 Error with that link. Me too. Try typing "build your own computer.org" in the search (I use Yahoo) engine. Should come up midway on the first page

Should come up midway on the first page I got in by manually typing in the address. BTW that address goes into my 'saved' box. Carm. PS. I did it !! The new comp is being built as we speak should have it by the weekend.

Mornin Men; Fritz--- to answer your question, I didn't order specific components because, in the main I would be out of my league. What I did, was go to my trusted repair guy who knows what I use my machine for and what I want from it. I told him I didn't want an Ultra machine or either a dud, just a good to very good computer. I wanted the quickest CPU he could get in the over all price range I gave him. Windows 7 x 64, Nvidia stuff where possible, and lots of storage. Those are the broad strokes I gave him. I was arouind to his shop yesterday and he was out getting the stuff he needs for the build so, sometime today I will take a peek to see what he picked up. I have good reason to trust him. I have to count on that. BTW. I have a fellow simmer who is going to help in the set up. Fellow simmers are there when needed. Cheers [ Fingers crossed] Carm.
