Are you contemplating the upgrade to WIN10 from M$? Well from my experience there is no reason to NOT do it if the reason you were reluctant had to do with FSX. After a couple of failed attempts at upgrading due to a rouge file from ORBX. I sucessfully installed the OS. Everything works so far although I of course haven't clicked on every one of my 444 scenery library locations but everything works just fine. If you have a problem look for this file:
"TODO" in my C:\Users\Dylan\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Orbx
delete it and the install will work flawlessly.

I think I might try to upgrade this weekend, after doing a complete image backup of my drives if things don't work out. Ultimately I want to do a fresh install of Win10 and FSX Steam Edition. As far as the privacy stuff is concerned, I think some of it is getting blown out of proportion, plus everyone is tracking to some extent these days. At least it looks like you can turn a lot of it off. At least the free upgrade is good for a year, if you have a nice stable Win7 or 8 system already, you can wait it out and see how it really goes .

As I'm perfectly happy with '7', I'll need to be absolutely convinced of the need for '10'. Anything 'free' these days is deservedly suspect so I'll watch user reactions with interest.

Nothing wrong with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" The only reason I'm interested is I'm due for a fresh re-install to clean up my system. I'd like to just go ahead with 10 if it seems to be good instead of having to fool with it later.

Most of the info gathering apps can be deactivated during the install process and lets face it if your using (renting) M$ Operating Systems they have always had the capability to 'spy' on us. It is their code and if one thinks its geared toward user privacy I have a few bridges I'd like to talk to you about. Like it or not within then next couple of years or so there isn't going to be much of a choice anyway. I disabled all but the error reporting portion of WIN10 during the install process; albeit it was via the WIN10 installer choices. As far as FSX (DX9) is concerned the only problem I encountered so far was trying to use the 'Goto Airport' function during my first running of FSX. It would bomb out when I tried to go to a new location. I re-booted and loaded FSX, opened the FSX Scenery Library and clicked on the OK button to rebuild the Scenery.cfg and Database files and that fixed the problem.

Not interested at all. As a matter of fact, I think I'll get a copy of Win 7 Pro so that when I get my new system, (hopefully by the end of the year), I'll be sure to have the option. Depending on the feedback for Win 10 I might consider it for my lap top, at least for a trial. I did try Win 8 once, but I didn't like the interface at all and after 8 months went back to Win 7.

Microsoft is trying to increase their presence in the smartphone market to better compete against Google. Understandably, this is a must for Microsoft. Without a "Windows" phone I am not sure how much of an advantage Win10 will be over Win7 at least for the near future. Down the road, the inter-connectivity of "10" will be utilized on the web to the point we may be forced to leave "7" behind. If flight simulator runs fine on whatever OS we are using today that shouldn't change, however, the other uses we may have for our PCs will eventually force the change. Apparently, there has always been a dual world view in personal computing; community and gamming. Microsoft, Apple, et al have embraced the community view and accommodate gaming while Xbox and Nintendo have embraced gaming. Sadly, the number of titles for PCs is dwindling if the selection in stores is any indication. Now Apple, Google and Microsoft would like you to do your gaming from a smartphone as well as your banking, dinner reservations, social contacts, medical appts., etc., ad infinitum. I don't think it is too difficult to see where this is all going. Maybe at some point there may be a dedicated gaming OS that will require less hardware to easily run huge programs like flight simulator. For now we have to decide between Win7 or 10.

Well said George - much as I'd like the status to remain quo, we live in a money-making world and change is inevitable.

Well I pulled the trigger on the upgrade. I upgraded my existing Windows 8.1 installation this morning. So far, it mostly seems to be working good. I had to update my NVIDIA drivers, and reload my FSX NVIDIA Inspector profile, but that was about it. All of my FSX stuff seems to work. I've done a few flights using Active Sky Next for weather, no big show-stoppers yet. The only thing I've found so far has been using multiple monitors in fullscreen mode. If I drag my GPS over to the second screen, I can't seem to get it to activate buttons. I can move it around, but not activate functions. This might be a quirk of running in DX10 mode with Steve's DX10 Fixer. Fullscreen multi-monitor has always been kind of quirky for me. It might be something magnified and worse with Win10. If you run multi-monitors in windowed mode, it works fine.
I'm going to continue to test things this week to see how it goes. As for the privacy stuff, during the initial upgrade, you can customize options and turn a lot of stuff off. That's what I did. I don't feel there's a big rush to go out and get it. I think it looks to be a fine, stable operating system. It's definitely more desktop friendly than Win8, so if you are on an 8/8.1 system, there might be more incentive to upgrade. If you are happy with your current system, there's no real rush to upgrade, it will hopefully get even more stable with time.
