Last evening a friend of mine, who has recently bought a 180 Maul, took me up for a little VFR Local. Wow, what an experience. He has a 1900' grass strip beside his house just north of town. Tom and I are both over 200' and the tanks were 3/4 full, and we were off and climbing in away less that 1/2 the strip. What a neat plane !! We were pulling 24 squared and showed between 95- 100. and she was solid as a rock and nice and responsive. Tom got really brave and let this old man play. I wanted to see how she was in slow flight, showing 50-55 with a bit of flap it was again like a rock and it felt like it would forgive even my ham hands. On final at 50-55 she was a real lady[ Tom was flying], and we sat down like an old hen setting on her nest. I can't remember when I enjoyed a flight more, sure hope I get invited again. That A/C is nice. Carm.

A 180 hp Maule is a vintage model. Had a student once who's dad owned a M4-145 - a lot like the Pacer. Another M4 I flew quite a bit had a 220 hp Franklin - fast and smooth.

I started one for FS years ago and got too bored and lazy to finish it.

Didn't realize the Maule still came with that small an engine - thought they were all 260+ 'snortenzoomers'.

As a matter of fact I have grape vines growing over my back deck. Saves having to walk too far.

How handy. Bought a house from a guy who had some grape vines and made his own. Much to my delight, down in the cellar where the well pump stuff was, were a dozen or so gallons of his work. The first glass was a little rough but, as they say about martinis, no such thing as a bad second.

As you point out, not the finest, perhaps, but it does improve with tasting.
