REX has a new weather program in development; REX Weather Architect. Makes it possible to create your own weather, I understand, but you also need to have the REX Texture Direct addon for it to work. www.rexdirectexperience.com/architect.html

Thanks for this Fritz. I must say, it looks extremely interesting and well put together. Full marks for innovation as well. My one concern is how long one might want to spend actually designing weather for a flight, particularly on longer flights? It might take a long time indeed to set up a 200 nm flight with full weather, for instance. Also, you will have to be pretty weather savvy to make yourself realistic weather, if that's your goal. For example, how many people understand what all comprises a warm front condition on a winter's day? Many people may not care that much I suppose, and this does allow for the flexibility of making the exact weather conditions you'd like to fly under and if that's your goal, then this might be a real boon.
I am very interested in seeing more of this and again, kudo's to Rex for coming up with the idea.

I'm quite interested in this but I'm such a sucker for weather programs that I need to watch it. I also thought about how much time it will take to construct a "weather system". Knowing basically zip about real weather systems, I wonder if I could make it work at all. Then again, it might just be a real hoot to futz around with. Might even learn something.

I think one would have a real interest in weather for such an app. I agree that most folks just want to see some weather effects that resemble the actual conditions in the area where they are flying. I use FSrealWX Lite, it downloads data from stations along my route and the weather conditions change accordingly. I don't know how accurate it is but it does a good job with my local weather conditions.

Cheeezzz !! That does look tempting -but, like Fritz I know very little about weather creation. I now have Rex Essential Plus, and it satisfies me most of the time, so me thinks we'll pass this offer. What you have George, sounds interesting, I'll have to look into that program.

Barely wetting my feet with Opus but their weather engine (no textures) is highly rated and works well with my Rex textures. Downloads Metars, TAFs, draws synoptic charts and creates weather for your flight planned route.

I have REX Essentials Plus, Active Sky 2012 and Active Sky Next. I use Next as my weather engine because it seems to be the smoothest for downloading all those weather updates and such. The textures are an amazing mélange from all of the above plus a few freeware HD textures. I must have fooled around with them for years. I no longer have any idea which texture comes from what program but I am quite happy with the result. And now this.
