I've been places that looked similar - make a 180 at the end and get the hell out of there.

I remember way back whenever buying the Alpahsim C-130 just for this mission. Christchurch to McMurdo Station. The only C-130 on skis that I could find at the time. Long flight, but in the FS9 days you could save a flight half way without everything going haywire when you restarted it.

Hmmm, never had a problem saving a flight. My VA does multi-weekend flights that continue week to week and saving the flight and re-loading the next week end always works for me. Of course I save while parked on the ground. Do you have a problem with a saved flight that you save while airborne??

Nice shot Fritz.
I think the saving issue is to do with aircraft systems in the more complex machines you find in FS. They can't get initialized properly when loading a saved flight (at least while in flight). Likely the default and simpler aircraft in FSX are ok, but most of the payware add-on's now are more complex than that (which is why they tell you to use a default a/c as your start up default flight I believe). At least, that's how I think it goes.

Mine always starts wherever I was when I shut it off. It has never mattered what plane I was using either, or what plane I switch to upon starting it again.

I can always save a flight when I interrupt it on the ground but if I try to save it in the air it's a hit and miss affair. Sometimes it'll work and sometimes not. It doesn't seem to depend on the aircraft. I don't even try anymore.

Well ya see fellers, between Christchurch and McMurdo Station there aren't a lot of places to stop. So that required an inflight save.
As Fritz says, inflight it seems to be a hit and miss affair depending on the plane. And as Glenn points out, with complex planes like the Majestic Dash 8 and PMDG NGX, your chances of a successful inflight save are slim.

I have mine set up for last flight as default.
