Well the old computer seems to have died. I called my IT guy at work to see if he has any ideas. If not, I am going to have to build one, and that money isn't there right now. I'll keep you posted, but it doesn't look promising. Always wanted to play the guitar!

BUMMER! Hope you get that resolved to your satisfaction man. I think there are more than one of us hanging on the brink at the moment. We'll see. Good luck.

BP;) That wouldn't work for me; my electric guitar runs through my computer for effects, amps and MIDI synth control. My latest computer build was primarily for guitar, with flight simulation a secondary consideration. As it turns out a powerful CPU is as important for VST plugins (guitar effects, amps & synths) as it is for FSX addons. Some VST plugins still bring my latest i7 build to its knees!

So, you gave up the guitar?? Playing music is good for your soul. I built a I5 / gtx760. Thats considered a cheapo PC, but it works really well at 4.4ghz. There will of course be things that could be better with an I7 / gtx 980, but as long as I dont know I dont care......

I am using this Intel to kick this thing - INTEL|CORE I7 4790K 4.0G. Going from a 2.7 to this should be a pretty good jump.

I am waiting for the tracking number to come live, and I'll tell you when I'll get it. I hope it all arrives on Friday so I can build it this weekend.

Above 4ghz is changing things a lot. You should be able to push that thing higher than 4ghz. When I overclock, I dont do max and I only use a medium size air-cooler. I find the max spot where things start to go strange and the I lower a couple of steps and leave it there. In my case thats 4.4ghz with an I5 4670K The same when setting the sliders, I fly over something hard on the system using an addon ac like the a2a c172. London in ORBX England is a good example. Then I adjust the sliders so that its just acceptable when I dont pan around. In P3D thats some 18 - 20 fps. Then I leave it there and concentrate on others things. New PC and FPS tweaking can be fun for a while but they tend to take a lot of your energy away from the real thing which is taking a nap while cruising at fpl340 with the autopilot and fms doing the thing. Its great to be the captain of the ship.

I usually prefer my pilots, virtual or otherwise, to be awake for the adventure. But your point on settings is well made.
