I guess Parry Sound will be released this week sometime. It's up on the preview page at Orbx now. One thing I am a bit disappointed in already is that most of the static aircraft I'm seeing have American registrations. Fine for freeware airports, but it doesn't help the immersion when it's a payware project. I guess they dip into a pool of aircraft they use, but if they are going to do Canadian airports, it might be nice to use Canadian registered aircraft for static a/c. Just my opinion.

Might be worth mentioning on their forum, maybe they can at least patch it later if it's too far along to change at this point. I don't know if the static aircraft are part of zombie flow, but if so they're probably using one library or subset thereof for North America. What kind of registration numbers did they use with the freeware Canadian airports?

I haven't noticed that much with the freeware stuff but I think it's mostly "N" numbers. They do have some registrations that I think are supposed to be Canadian, but they have them screwed up. There's one C-Asomething, and that's not anyone's registration that I know of. I suspect they do use a pool, but at least fix the pool. Again, if it's free, I'm not bitching. This isn't.

I think that it's just plain too much work to make the registration numbers correct for each country, so they just stick with what they've got. Frankly, I haven't paid much attention to it, but I will now. It is too bad, though.

Personally I find it a bit insulting. The amount of research and detailed investigation they had to do to get all the bits and pieces correct for that airport (and any other payware airport outside the USA) was pretty intense. It would take a 30 second post and maybe 10 minutes to change or add static aircraft with the correct registrations for that country. Miniscule compared with getting and making the objects for the airport. They have France, the UK and Norway correct (although there are far too many US registered aircraft in each of those places as well). Could they not extend the same courtesy to their nearest neighbour? Again, if I'm paying for it, I think I have a right to expect this much at least.

Oh, I agree with you. The details are everything, make no mistake.

Nearest Neighbor? ORBX is an Australian company? Not too close to Canada. I avoid the problem by not buying the payware airports and spend most of the time flying.

Yeah, I guess they are Australian based, but I think most of the staff are American. That said, Holger is Canadian, so you'd think.... . Regardless, my comments stand.

Oh, I agree with you. The details are everything, make no mistake. Yep that's right !! I noticed that the fuel pump is in ' Litres' and the amount is about right for a Saturday morning breakfast run. Actually, IMO over all, the thing is not bad. Me thinks I'll likely spring for it. ----we'll see. Carm.

Always the devil's advocate, I'm wondering about this one. Supposedly an important milestone in Orbx production, I would have presumed this would be one of their major "fat" ones located in an existing "fat" scenery region. No reflection on "Parry Sound" nor it's quality but similar efforts have usually been free, a way of introducing a new developer. Obviously a slow day here in the glorious PNW.

I must admit, I too wondered about their choice. While it's neat to see something close to home, and while it does fit in (somewhat) with other airports they have done in Ontario (albeit those are generic offerings), it does seem to be "out there". Almost like an orphan in some ways. That's why I wondered if this was the beginning of the all-paid strips now and the end of the freeware packs. I thought this was a first but they do have others like Palm Springs, so I could be out to lunch on this, but why Parry Sound is a bit of a mystery.

IE: Global Freeware airport Packs. There was a post about a month ago that JV has curtailed N.A. freeware packs for awhile because there were so many being developed. Probably worried about cutting into airports ORBX might consider for payware is my guess. The European Packs were not part of the slowdown as they were usually only a few airports at a time. This was reflected in the release of EU Pack 7 without any further N.A. Packs since #20. It appears to me (WAG) that so many different people jumped on developing for Global Freeware wagon that is was getting out of hand.
