Orbx has released the Freeware Packs 1-20 as one consolidated file today. This is for NA obviously. The size is very small due to the consolidation so it's a fast download. Nothing in the content itself has changed apparently.

I wonder if ORBX will ever release OpenLC NA.. We were promissed late 2013..... Its bad behaviour. Its just like when a plummer takes a job and leave a small bag of tools in order to make believe he is working while he is working somewhere else. This they do in order get jobs that would otherwise be done faster by others. Its illegal in many places on earth. And if one was really picky, ORBX could be taken to court. ORBX have now announced that they will not say when a product will be released. I wonder why. If I was UTX, I would be seriously pissed off.
ORBX make nice products but they have serious ethical problems. Noone seems to care.

ORBX have now announced that they will not say when a product will be released. I wonder why. If I was UTX, I would be seriously pissed off. ORBX make nice products but they have serious ethical problems. Noone seems to care. There were no promises made to release Open LC NA in 2013 from ORBX. There were posts by JV in that year announcing that ORBX would be offering NA LC at a future date in combination with the proposed Global textures in small packs etc. This method of release has of course been superceded over and over with more posts by ORBX over time and finally due to statements such as "we were promised xxxx by 2013" in posts ad infinitum ORBX returned to its original policy of not making any release dates for future software. For a very long time there has been an order or release made public that EU LC would be the first landclass released followed by the second, which is to be NA LC, and that is still the planned schedule at this time. When the software is in late BETA testing there will be screen shots etc. made about the software. Considering how complex LC for the entire North American continent must be it sure wont be a 'wham bam' affair to code and the work is proceeding as we speak. My guess, and it is just that, a guess, the NA LC will be available sometime in 2015. The probable sales volumn of the product is not lost on the company I'm sure and as stated many many time it is in development at this time but there will be no predicted release date made for this or any other ORBX payware.

Yes, I know that. I sometimes read the ORBX forum as well. But you forget one very important thing: OpenLC NA was promissed a loooong time ago. It made many people buy FTX Global and later on Vector. But the missing link is OpenLC. Without a decent landclass the project is far from being finished. When promissing the way ORBX did, they made sure, not only that costumers bought Global and Vector, but also that they didn´t buy other devellopers product. Then later on........ Its so easy to promise.
I´m glad ORBX have learned to stop promissing, but this one was very unfair competition being legal or not. I like ORBX products but now its enough and thats why I say that I wont buy any ORBX products untill they have released OpenLC NA.

Yeah, it is frustrating. They aren't the only developers to do this either. However, in their defence, people keep hammering and hammering on them for release dates (I STILL see posts on Carenado's website today about the Citation, asking for a release date when Carenado has never ever given one - some people just aren't that "quick" I guess ) and eventually I think they cave. I think they've seen the folly in giving release dates at all and have now stopped altogether. Frankly, especially after the fiasco that was the initial Vector release, I'd rather they take the time to get it right, which seems to be what they are doing. I too bought Global and Vector with OpenLC NA in mind, and it will come. I guess I'd rather they make sure they have it as right as it can be the first time though. I do NOT want to be landing in Iqaluit and seeing palm fronds blowing across the runway in the latest blizzard to hit the area .

Oh crap! Are you saying palm trees are not correct in Iqaluit? I guess the pink flamingos are probably wrong as well? BP;)

No, that part is correct (not kidding - seen them !!) Of course, they are plastic and stuck into the permafrost, but just the same...

Your interpertation of promised and announced it quit a bit different than mine I guess. Having been involved with ORBX long before it became ORBX and was just freeware VOZ (I started with v0.99) I'm quite used to the no release date philosophy of the company. JV made the announcment about Global, VECTOR and LC back in 2013 but certainly had not promised any release date for it. All that being said NA LC is in development as we speak and will be released when it is finished. Hang in there and your disires will be fulfilled. (eventually LOL)

It is suicide to promise a completion date in this business. This is a global effort now, and people come and go all the time, which in the end, hold up a completed product. It happens all the time. I added two of the ORBX upgrades, and it transformed my sim. Yes, it would be nice to have the LC right now, but when I purchase it, I want it right. I don't want some rushed-out-the-door piece of crap that is going to need six updates to even start. Land class for an entire continent will take some time IF DONE CORRECTLY. I am sticking with the premise that the other two parts were. This should be the same. Nothing I hate more than to go to a field I know and see houses sitting inside the airport area, knowing it is wrong. This will take care of that (hopefully!) and it will get even better. It's much easier to build a field or a region, then it is to do an entire continent! Hang in there!!

Nothing I hate more than to go to a field I know and see houses sitting inside the airport area, knowing it is wrong. I agree, the urban sprawl in FSX is most disconcerting. I have seen logging cutblocks interpreted as housing developments by some 3rd party landclass developer's! The computer axiom GIGO "Garbage In, Garbage Out", applies very well to FSX development. It can be seen in the Orbx regions as well; the Canada portion of PNW relies on NHN data whose time period for the Comox Valley is 1980 to 1996; which explains why there is no Courtenay Airpark Lagoon.

I dont agree. I would prefer the OpenLC NA out now and an update or two along the road. The LC is what makes it look right. What glues it all together. The idea of "getting it right" is naive. It will Never be right, it will always be something more or less close to reality and thats good enough for me. OpenLC EU has had its first update and its still far from being right. Villages of very different size has the same size, there are things that shouldnt be, houses near runways, autogen that looks default and out of place, BUT its the best we've had so far. I think ORBX is doing really good compared to what there were before, where flying Europe was really dull. But I find that they are taking a VERY long time with this one. So lets have now. I'm not going to yell if its not perfect.
