Our first official AA flight was today from Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario, to Ottawa Ontario. This was a patient transfer hoping he would get home before Christmas. The weather was dicey at both ends, with vis right down to 1 nm at YKF. At YOW, it was 200 & 2.5, so things were pretty much right on minimums at both ends. The flight was done in our brand new PC-12. This aircraft is an outstanding machine for just about anything with that huge back door and room for a stretcher plus 2 attendants and a family member or two. It was about a 1.5 hour flight at FL230 where things were pretty calm and comfortable. The approach was all done on autopilot to minimums where the lights were picked up right on the 200 ft RA point. At Ottawa we parked at the Innotech/Execaire hangar to drop our patient into a waiting ambulance for the trip home. All in all it was an excellent trip. Some shots for your perusal.
On the ramp at Kitchener waiting our patient
Still in the climb over Toronto
Lots of weather below
A modern interior. After the Metroliner, this looks weird, but man, it sure is easy to get used to this level of sophistication!
FL230
A few breaks in the undercast
Things looked a little better for a bit as we approached Ottawa, but not for long. No shots of breaking out as I was a little "busy"
Parked in the rain at the Innotech/Execaire Hangar. End of a good flight. We'd stay over for a couple of hours before heading back to see if the wx improves at YKF. When we took off, it was below minimums for landing. The weather on the return promises to be even more interesting as the evening wears on.
