Thanks, Spud. Gotta get 'em all, now that I've got Global. Merry, merry!

Grabbed it and checked out each one. These are really nice! I'm not sure how accurate they are, but who cares! At least these airports are now a destination with planes, cars, people, buildings, etc.

I agree that the small freware ORBX airports changes things a lot. I personally dont need their 1gig payware addon airports. They are sweet, but I fly 90% of the time and then they are gone. landing in a freeware Orbx makes such a difference to default FSX/P3D "jailhouse" concrete boxes. Its depressing to land in a West-Alaskan village and see that they have 2 or 3 jailhouses and nothing else. I just wish the freeware ORBX was a bit better organized. And I wish they would finish that OpenLC N. America. Its 1 year late now..... OpenLC made such a difference in the European ORBX landscape.

I must admit, I've "fallen" a bit for their payware airports (welcome, by the by , but what you say is absolutely correct. If one spends a lot of time sitting at the gate/ramp watching the trains go by (which is rather neat ), then maybe the term "flight" simming is lost on one<LOL>). The other "goodie" I see is a 747 sized hangar at Mayo or Pelly Crossing which might see a few Cessna 185's and 206's, and a few Dash 8's in a year. These freebies help immensely. I agree totally about OpenLC. I just bought it for Europe but haven't had a chance to fly out of a fat region yet so I don't know yet how it's transformed things, but I'm sure it's a big difference. Seeing that in North America would make a pretty big difference to me for sure. They did say they were working on the update to V1 and NA simultaneously so hopefully NA won't be too far off, but to date we've heard nothing about NA since they said that. We'll see.

With respect of the FSX global freeware Airports: Are there any of those in the Alaska area? I´m flying Ravn Virtual, and it would be good with some airport changes. I have the Alaska regions, but thats another story.
BTW, what is orbx V1

Not Orbx that I know of. Plenty of freeware by other developers (some go back to FS9 and work to varying degrees) though. A search in here will find most of them for you. I meant to say OpenLC v1.0 (too little sleep last night ).

IE: Global Freeware Packs and Alaska. The philosophy of the freeware packs is to enhance default airport that are OUTSIDE of any ORBX "full fat" area like SAK, PNW, NCA etc. Of course as more areas are added by ORBX that might cover the Freeware Pack offerings there may have to be changes made due to an overlap problem. That is, of course, just my WAG (wildassguess)

Yes, I am mostly looking for freeware addons that will be used in west and nothern Alaska, where Ravn virtual flies. I have ORBX global and Vector (and LC in Europe) The ORBX SAK region only covers south east Alaska. I have some of the addons from the freeware list. The PABE, Bethel addon is a good example on how much a few mb that is well done can change inmersion. Its a great little airport. I personally dont need addon airports in the ORBX regions. They are already a lot better than the default FSX/P3D and good enough for my inmersion.

Most, if not all of the updated freeware sceneries are in areas that ORBX has not done a region yet. That's what their site says anyhow. BP;)

Plus, as I said the original philosophy of the Freeware Packs was to enhance airports outside of ORBX regional areas, and those areas not planned to be developed at the present time. Western AK is one of Holger's projected improvements at a later time so the Pack folks may try to shy away from that region.

I have heard that a few Canadian airports in Eastern Canada are due up next, but they are very probably going to be doing more YT airports in an upcoming project.
