As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm cancelling my TV service. It's become hugely expensive with 5 rate increases in the past 2 years, and the programming is no better (if not worse). I now get more stations which means I can watch the same thing on more channels than before, and the regulatory body for TV and radio in Canada has approved an increase in the number of commercials that can be shown in a given time slot. It's at the point now where for a 30 minute show, you barely get to see 17 minutes of the actual show. So, I've had enough of that and will save myself about $70 to $80 per month. Instead, I'm going to work on my photography a lot more, read a lot more, and do a LOT more flight simming (at least you use your brain for that, unlike TV). To that end, I've been really taking advantage of the scenery sales this fall. I got Sumburgh, Southampton, Squamish, Redding, and Northern California, and will get Norway the minute (micro-second ) it's released. There are no airplanes that really grab me, except **maybe** the Fokker F27 (we'll have to see on that one), so I'm going now with scenery. Should be a fun winter with Caribou Enterprises (who own Air Caribou, BC-Alaska Air and North Atlantic Air). Yippee. I love exploring. This, however, will be it for some time to come. The bleeding stops with Norway (or Narvik... well, at some point ).

I hear ya about the TV. In France, advertisements are limited to 12 minutes per hour and all advertising is forbidden after 8 p.m. on the publicly owned stations. And it's still too much, considering that a TV license, which is supposed to pay for the TV stations is now €175 per year. (For each TV set) I'm getting Norway for sure and it looks like I'm going to spring for Global. And then that's IT!

Wow, that's good! What they have started doing here to get around the time restrictions is posting a small ad on the lower part of the screen during the tv show itself. If that wasn't annoying enough, before they were semi-transparent and very small, but now they are starting to cover almost the lower 1/4 of the screen. On a show I watched the other night, there was something critical to the story happening UNDERNEATH where this ad was, and you missed an important point of the story because of it. That really was the last straw for me. We also don't have a la carte here so for every one station you really want, you have to pay for a dozen others. I'll enjoy telling them exactly where they can "place" the next set of ads . Yeah, sounds good. There are some new shots just posted around the Rost area. I didn't think I'd need a Twin Otter there, but for that little chain, it might just be worth it. There seem to be a lot of airports that I never knew were in Norway in this package and they look like a lot of fun. I can see another spin-off ops coming for the Metro and Twin Otter pretty soon .

We gave up satellite TV - either our frazer fir trees or Dish. Now we have a reasonably fast DSL connection and 'stream' with a little ROKU gadget and mostly NETFLIX. They're doing more original stuff each year and run most of the other stuff - only last years episodes and lots of movies. $9.00 a month.

Sounds good Dave. The more I think on this, the better I like the idea.

I haven't watched TV for over 10 years and can't say I really miss it. What I do want to see is often available online or I can buy a DVD. I'm sick of all the 'talent' shows and so-called 'reality' competitions. You want a reality show, dump everybody on a remote island and leave them there for a month or two (no resupply or 'time outs' or such). Come back when time's up and if you're still alive, then you win.

<LOL> LOVE IT!!! Now THAT would be a "reality" show to beat all shows. Good thinking. I'm amazed at how many people I'm encountering that do not have TV now! I'm thinking I should have done this a long time ago. I'd probably have enough saved from that to buy all the add-ons I'm getting for FSX <LOL>.

My wife's real CSI fan so I often sit and watch. Love it when what was once a lengthy commercial is merely a micro black flash.
