If you can, put your FSX on a separate drive from your OS and related stuff. Newegg has several - 80-160 Gb - $25 or less.

Agreed 100%. And just wait for OpenLC North America. That really WILL do the deal!
Do you have FSX in the default location and/or on your OS drive? I got 2 extra drives in this rig - one for FSX and one for the backups. Each are a TB so I'm pretty good. Highly recommend you go that route if you can. I really simplifies things a LOT.
PS (edit) - Sorry Dave, I didn't see your post when I put this up. But Dave is right - putting it on a separate drive (the bigger the better!) is really the way to go. Better performance too!

I have a 750GB (default) where EVERYTHING lives. I also installed a 2TB last year, and it is almost empty. Would I have to reinstall it all over to there, sceneries, planes, etc.? I would love to have it all on that one, which would not be the OS drive at that point. Right now, it is all on the one, original, smaller drive.

Yeah, it would mean a complete reinstall I'm afraid. Lots of work unless you really need/want to do it.

That would be a whole lot nicer than reinstalling the whole shebang from scratch.

... You are 100% correct, my friend. This is a whole new, different sim. That Gulkana/Mankomen area is like a whole new world! I am off to plant a few cabins around. Global and vector, to me, just made FSXI. I think the Global mesh will seal the deal. BP;) Oh, boy, now you've got me thinking about Global all over again! My bank manager will go through the roof!

Fritz, it is really, really worth it. It is on sale right now, and you will save about $50.00. However, you have to buy it by Jan 2, 2015. For the Global, the Vector, and the Pilot mesh, it ran about $200.00. I'll tell you now, the mesh could wait, because it looks great as is. That could be your last add-on if the $$ is a little tight. Just my 2 cents. BP;)

Well, I do have the FSGenesis mesh for Canada and Alaska, which is better than nothing, I guess. With Global being on sale and all, I am going to have to see what I can do.

Glenn uses FSGenesis. That will work just fine. It's working for him!

Yup, still using FSG and it's just fine. I have the higher resolution version though, but if that's what you have now, then you'd be just fine in Canada and Alaska (our 4th territory, but don't tell the yanks... or the Russians... oh man, I think I'm in trouble now... ). The mesh does add a LOT of resolution to the ground elevations though, and makes map reading a lot easier in the hills (on the Prairies, not so much ). I have to admit, I too am really going out on a limb with this stuff. I've bought a boat-load of stuff from Orbx this time around and I must say, like Don, the sim is being transformed. I'm probably adding N. California, Redding and Southampton today since it looks like it will be tomorrow before Norway is out now. It sure is making a difference to me, and honestly, I've gone from being "done" with FS to it being a brand new sim for me. That's saying a lot (oh, I'm also dropping my TV service due to exorbitant rates and nothing but commercials and crap (same thing really) on it anyway, so I need a fix of some kind ).

Got Orbx Papua, New Guinea (AYPY) with the freeware addon. A really well done piece of scenery with some very tricky landing areas.

Interesting. I've been considering that one. When you get time and have had a chance to play with it a bit, can you post a few screenies? I'd love to see those.

I saw that Papua freeware, but it said it needed Global so I passed. Now that I'm considering Global, yeah, some snaps would be appreciated.
