This is a Bellanca Aircruiser. Those curving devices under each wing were fuel tanks but did supply extra lift so this was a real tiger. That round engine provided 715 hp - the useful load was more than the empty weight and it cruised in the 150 mph range - all in 1929 (wasn't born for another nine years).
