The Shepherd

Anyone ever read this short story by Frederick Forsythe (Day of the jackal)?  RAF Vampire lost on top - complete electrical failure and dwindling fuel.  A mysterious Mosquito shows up and leads him down to safety.  Turns out a similar plane disappeared in this area, same time of the year in 1944.  My kind of story.
