Placed in service to replace Death Valley's wagons (20 mule teams and 'the old ranger'), this monarch has passed many annual and periodic inspections but appearance has never been a priority. Current thinking is leave the paint in place - removing it may reveal something really expensive.

The old workhorse. Still a few out there. One company, Florida Air Cargo, which flies out of OPF, flys them daily to the Bahamas. Freight operation. I want to say one of the planes was a D-Day bird, but I'd have to check on it.

The gent who did that paint was going for 'Flight of the Phoenix' but it's just the perfect used up 'flown but not fondled' old bird that would be Captained by guys in Ernie Gann novels. On a a different tangent - 86 today, am I the oldest member of this forum ? (I think Sue is close) Nothing about the 'Norseman"?
