I got to thinking about the Trimotor and I'll bet they were cold and noisy. And bounced around a lot.

When I worked at Merrill Field in Anchorage, one of the FBO's got a Ford Trimotor replica (Bushmaster) and all the tower people were invited for a ride. It had a good sized dorsal fin to make it less squirrely but it still seemed a lot of work to fly. I got to yank and bank a little and liked the obvious power of three R985's but max speed of 128 mph was disappointing - my Pacer could do almost that with the right prop pitch. |
