Laminar calls it their 'convective thunderstorm' and, if turbulence is a criteria, this gets an A+. Remember a time flying westbound in South Dakota - heard a guy up north, around Pierre North D, literally crying for help. He'd inadvertently entered a cell and needed to exit quick. Normally ATC radar is programmed to suppress weather returns but some good Samaritan flipped the switch, allowing weather to show, and suggested a heading to a better place. Must have been good, didn't hear anything more. |
