Well, Air Caribou Enterprises is underway. The fleet is painted and all is in operation now. Air Caribou Enterprises (or just Caribou Enterprises) consists of Caribou Outfitters, who operate our bush camps out of Sioux Lookout; Air Caribou who does the regional charter and sched flights in Northern Ontario; and lastly the cargo arm of Air Caribou, who currently carries all cargo to Central Canada and into the northern USA. You'll be seeing as much of these as I can do although time constraints are going to be an issue starting very soon. Nevertheless, with everything in place, whenever I get time, there will be flights and PIREP's to go with them.
Our flight this morning was in an Air Caribou Cessna 207 for a short jaunt from Dryden to our home base in Sioux Lookout, NW Ontario. It's a short, 37nm trip and today's weather was good, albeit very cold for this time of year. The lakes are all frozen now, but you can't get on them yet. It'll be another 1 to 2 weeks before the ice is safe for putting an airplane on, at best. We do have camp work to do with Caribou Outfitters so we'll be glad when the ice is thick enough.
Loading up at Dryden. All seats occupied for this trip, along with a significant amount of luggage in the baggage compartments
Climbing out of Dryden into a hazy sky. It was around -15C this morning, so there may well have been a bit of an ice fog component to this.
As cold as it was, the scenery certainly was nice for this run.
As you can see from the GPS, there is no shortage of lakes up this way. This is float/skiplane country around here. Caribou Outfitters' equipment is all on seasonal gear.
Visual evidence of the amount of water up this way. It can make it hard to navigate at times.
Still more water, and lots of bush.
You can just make out our hangar and docks ahead of the strut. We'll be glad to get the skiplanes on the lakes when the ice is thick enough.
And now on final for CYXL. Nice flight, although with brisk winds, a bit bumpy at times.
Thanks for looking in. Back when I can with another installment.
