Getting ready for the teams - this is the Ophir checkpoint for the Iditarod sled dog race. A quartet of us hunted moose out of that place for twenty four years - lots of tall tales and several toasts to whatever seemed like a good idea. Now a grandson owns the place and runs the checkpoint that's been a part of the race since the beginning in '73.

Damn that looks cold. My desert rat butt is shivering just looking at it. Sue My friend, whose son is now owner, said the temp this year never got below 10 F and it snowed every day. They were unable to use the river, which runs right by the cabin, because of overflow so all their stuff had to be hauled from the nearby airport. Most of the helpers are airline types so there are some very nice rigs parked there every year.
