In the process of downloading an 'on sale" XP11 from 'Steam' - hopefully by day's end . If there are any other XP users on this forum, I'd enjoy hearing about your experiences - what to look for and what to avoid.

Here's a link to the X Plane forum at SOH. You'll find links to some great free scenery, and tips n tricks. I am really impressed by X plane 11. I've been flying it a lot. There's a folder called "instructions" in the root folder of X 11, that's where you will find the manual. Download the stock scenery a little at a time, it end up at about 50 gb. www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/forumdisplay.php/64-X-Plane You'll find lots of good stuff here too - x-plane.org/ Sue

Thanks for that Sue. I may have shot myself in the foot by downloading it from 'Steam' but a sale is always magnetic. Some of it showed up but doesn't show in my 'Steam' account which makes me suspect something amiss. I set my stick and rudder within normal parameters but am s-turning down the runway then all over the sky. Interesting view in the S76 watching the ground come up in a ninety degree dive - didn't hurt. Have fired one over 'Steam's' bow and, with any luck, it's just me in my dotage again.

Looked at it on Steam. A lot of the "Global Scenery" packs are listed as DLC. They are free, but you have to go into your games library, right click on X-Plane 11, and click on "View Downloadable Content". You should see a bunch of global scenery marked as free. Take it from there. All your OrbX stuff will install to it from FTX Central, of course. Just select FSX Steam Edition at the simulator select page. ( or just FSX if you don't have the boxed version installed.) Anything for FSX will work in FSX SE, just point the installer to it. Don't blame you, I paid $59 for my copy from Laminar. Sue

What sensitivity settings for stick and/or rudder are you using? The elevator's flapping like a dolphin's tail and the yaw and roll inputs are equally touchy.

Try 85% on sensitivity, that gives fine control at center, then about 24% for stability augmentation. The "Control Sensitivity" tab is at the bottom of the joystick page. I use the stick very sensitive for helicopters, you may want less. Make sure you set a dead zone in Windows. (if possible) Sue

Okay, it's dummy day for Dave. How do you set a dead zone in Windows?

Well, it involves sulpher and strange rhymes.

Control Panel,Devices, and Printers, right click on the controller,Game Controller Settings, Properties, Dead Zone. You must be using Windows 10. Mine is 7 and it clumps game controllers under devices - anyway I ran through the calibrations but there was nothing (as in FSX) for setting dead/null zone. I whined and snivelled a bit on SOH so perhaps some pearls of wisdom?

Well, it involves sulpher and strange rhymes. My Granny always said "never feed a guy named Fritz a straight line".
