A couple of weeks ago, I moved all the innards from my mid-tower Antec case into a full-tower Thermaltake. All is good and the LED's are brilliant but..... My sound is gone. I know the Realtek HD is working so I got a little USB adapter which gives me headphones but still no speakers. I've Googled full circle and did the ASUS forum (whose board it is) with no useful answers. Any one here ever use this adapter (USB sound card is what it's called but it's just a plug with USB on one end and two 3.5 mm jacks on t'other) and/or have an idea why they work phones but not speakers?

Let me have my son read this. He's pretty good at trouble shooting this type of crap.

I assume you plugged the speakers in ? The Realtek control page (in Windows Control Panel) will show the front and rear jacks, and if anything is plugged in. Does the "Realtek High Definition Audio" show in device manager ? If it does, is it enabled? Did you check the volume level ? I've had Realtek for a long time on different mobos. For that matter is on board sound enabled in your BIOS settings? Screw the adapter. We'll get the Realtek fixed. Sue

MOBO divers are current and BIOS is properly set. The fact that it works on an alternate power source (USB) tells me the Realtek card is working - just not through the front and back jacks. One item, perhaps of interest, when I bring up the Realtek Audio Manager, the little speaker sound checker button goes red when I push it.

Does the "Realtek High Definition Audio" show in device manager ? Ok, if so - what speaker type is selected on the Realtek Audio manager on the "Speaker Configuration" tab right next to the sound check button? Which BTW, is supposed to turn red. Stereo, Quad. 5.1 ? Over on the right do the analogue speaker jacks show anything plugged in, or are they not colored ? Are the front jacks plugged into the mobo BTW? The USB does NOT use the Realtek card. It is self contained. That's why it is called a USB "soundcard". It doesn't have enough power for speakers. Sue

Hey Sue. A couple of pics. The lighted jack is #down on the right (lime) in the group of six. A red square shows in the 'play' button and each speaker is outlined in blue when its supposed to be making sound but they're not. Update - Now I have some sound. 60 Mhz hum but I feel I'm gaining.

Try going into "Sound Effects" and selecting something. I've had it be wonky without an effect selected. Also check your default format. I use 24 bits 4100hz.

Yeah '24 bits 48000' (lowest). The speaker sound, through front and back panel jacks had evolved to more like the side tone from a 'David Clark' headset only much louder.

Please make sure that Realtek is enabled in device manager. Try the effects thing I suggested. The effects setting is very neccessary.
