I took the plunge and picked up P3D this week. So far everything is working pretty good. I've been wanting to get back to flying my Air Hauler 2 company. I got Air Hauler pointed to P3D instead of FSX now, and all my fleet planes are installed and working. Since I've been flying New England and New York, I have just installed ORBX Global, Vector, and NA Landclass, plus some custom local scenery like the iBlueYonder Nantucket. All is working well so far, and I feel like I'm getting better performance with my hardware than FSX.
I did have to pay to upgrade my GTN gauges, and my Active Sky 2016. I knew that ahead of time, so it wasn't a surprise. So far I'm pleased with it, and I'll continue to move stuff over. Ultimately I will only be using P3D I think, as long as everything I use regularly will work.

Let me know if you have any problems. I'll teach you how to fool an FSX installer. So far, everything I have works. LOL Sue

Thanks Sue . I might take you up on that offer when I try installing my older stuff. So far everything has been pretty easy. The new FTX Central has made getting my ORBX stuff installed a lot easier than having to extract and look up all my registration codes. -Scott

I guess I do have a question installing some of my aircraft. I've been putting some of my Carenado/Alabeo planes into P3D. The newer planes have a P3D v3 install option and everything is good. For some of the slightly older stuff, they have P3D options, but not specifically for v3. I just manually put in the path of my v3 install, and the install proceeds. I've done this with my King Air 200 and C90B, and the Titan. I've flown all of them and everything SEEMS to work okay. I was just wondering if this is correct, and if there are any hidden problems I might be missing.

I like things pretty well so far Don. I had been using FSX Steam with DX10. It seems like there is so much tweaking with fsx.cfg, NVIDIA inspector, the DX10 tool, and everything. Plus I didn't think I was getting the performance I should have with my hardware (Skylake i7 OC to 4.4 GHz, GTX 970, and fast SSD drives). Out of the box with P3D v3, I didn't do much tweaking. I adjusted stuff in-sim, but haven't done any cfg tweaks or NVIDIA inspector yet. It still looks and runs pretty good. This is all with the visuals looking (IMHO) better than FSX. All of my add-ons that I normally use are working well. I have all my ORBX stuff installed, AS2016 + ASCA, REX stuff, my GTN gauges, Air Hauler 2, and many of my add-on planes. So far so good. I haven't done anything with addon AI yet, just using the default for now. It's working well enough that I am slowly uninstalling stuff from FSX . -Scott

With the '64 bit question' hanging like the 'sword of Damacles', I'm a bit standoffish until that's resolved. Not knowing much of what is involved, it'll have to happen before I understand but I do see a personal switch not too far down the line.

I bit the bullet and grabbed it tonight. I want someone to tell me what is so special about it? I'm not seeing it at all. The sound seems a bit better. The scenery is as bad if not worse than MS stock. Once I add ORBX into it, I'd have my FSX sim again. I'm going to mess around with it a bit. I have 30 days to return it. Nothing has made me go WOW yet. What am I missing?

Double check your settings Don. P3D out of the box should look better. One thing of course, is that it handles VAS much better, and is much less prone to OOM.

I have never had an OOM, ever. I'll look at the settings, but to me, it looks no different than out of the box FSX.

It should have better visuals, especially if you have been using DX9 for FSX. You should have improved shaders, cockpit shadows, and more light bloom. It's not always a night and day difference depending on the time of day and weather.
