So, when I'm not flying for Air Caribou, and this is the winter season so not a lot happening, I am flying for "OneWorld Cargo", a group of airlines' cargo divisions that do large and small charters. The small cargo flights are typically done with piston and turboprop aircraft and are largely contracted out with a few exceptions. The two of the group that I'm mostly flying for are Canadian Airlines (Cargo) and British Airways (World Cargo). Today's flight was the triple 7 from Calgary to Prestwick, Scotland. This flight took us up over Fort Mac, Baker Lake, Pangirtung, Central Greenland and then south again to Prestwick, some 6700 plus nm. Our initial altitude was FL290, but we eventually got up to FL330 once we were light enough. We had pretty close to a full load and lots of reserve fuel. Anyway, after inputting the route into the FMC then getting the data downlink of our performance numbers, we were off on RWY 35R at CYYC. About 7.5 hours later, we were in Prestwick. Some pics for your viewing pleasure. Loading up at dawn, CYYC On the roll, 35R Climbing for FL290 over Central Alberta Ditto A little hard to pick out, but some opposite direction traffic below; somewhere near Edmonton Some views from the backup crew seats. Not much else to show you on these long hauls, especially as it got to be dark once north of the Arctic Circle Many hours later, we're on final for Prestwick, Scotland (EGPK) A flawless flight. Thanks for looking.

Nice one Glenn . Do you time compress parts of these long hauls, or just let it run? -Scott

I agree, Crash. That would be cool! I wanted to fly today, but ended up taking down / putting away all the XMas stuff. BP;)

Thanks guys. @scott - I let it run. There is a pretty nifty time compression function in the T7 that you control from the FMC but I tend not to use it for a number of reasons. That said, I'm not sitting at the computer for 7 or 8 hours straight either. I go off and do other things. I check in from time to time, especially for scheduled step climbs and of course, the descent and landing. I also stick with it on departure until I'm at cruise altitude plus a bit to make sure everything is running tickety-boo. @crash /Don - Yep, agreed . The PMDG 747-400n V3 is due out within the next 2 weeks if all goes well (and they have done the Canadian Airlines Goose livery) so that will be in my barn ASAP after release. I'm really gung-ho about that one, although I have to say, I really have the hots for the newer technology in the 777. That data up/down-link function is really sweet and sure does save a lot of time in the flight planning department. I expect to be flying both quite a lot.
