Everything can be hacked. Nothing is totally foolproof, and it always seems the hackers are one step ahead of the security. Seems there is a high profile hack reported all the time these days. Your strategy of using one card for online purchases is about the best you can do these days, plus watch your statements carefully for any signs of fraud.

PayPal is out at ORBX simply stated by the CEO. It ain't coming back. Whine and complain all you want. Sit in a corner and huff and puff but in the end it boils down to if you want the ORBX experience with flight simming its their way or the highway. I originally got a CC from my credit union with an amount that I felt I could live with just in case it ever got hacked. Only problem with that is the amount on the card keeps being increased by VISA. Guess its because I don't pay in installments. Charge it and pay the total each month, CC is for convience or online shopping. Strangest thing is it seems like a lot of folks from Germany are the loudes complainers and the only time I ever had any difficulty with my CC was with a German based purchase. Credit Union said there could be a problem with that company and cancelled that card and issued me another one. Didn't lose a dime!~

Oh, sorry people. I guess I'm late the the party. Didn't mean to post something everybody already knew about. I just thought that they should warn you that they are storing your numbers (I have had my card hacked before, so I'm a bit on the cautious side now). Not to worry, won't happen again.

I generally use only debit cards (Visa flavored), pulling from an account that never has more than $100 in it. Hack my card, steal my funds, you'll end up with a miserable teeny bit of funds for your felonious ways. And I have my bank-card emergency phone number in my cell, so if something goers amiss I can make a quick call to cancel the card.

I'm laughing crash, but I'm not going to touch that. I'm in enough trouble over there. It's cold in Siberia, it is. Sue

Just to make it perfectly clear the quoted post in crash's post is an altered version of my original post. Humorous for sure but kind of changing the point I was making.

OK, so just so I am clear, am I considered one of the whiners and complainers you are referring to, based on my thread here? Kinda looks like it from the way this has gone .

The point I'm making is that as far as ORBX is concerned PayPal is DED, DEAD, GONE, KAPUT, OVER, DONE, AIN'T GONNA BE A METHOD TO PAY FOR SCENERY. No use to continue to submit posts about it, won't do any good, just have to get over it. On the same note JV posted today that the Project X he talked about in his 2017 roadmap post was indeed X Plane but that any development for Project X was over and ORBX will not develop for that sim. Straight forward, to the point, clear as a bell and YET already post are starting to pile up saying/asking if X Plane can still be ORBXIZED. For some reason flight simmers seem to be a very difficult group to accept a simple statment that IT AIN'T HAPPEN'!

Well, obviously people seem to have trouble reading what I write, because my post had nothing to do with PayPal. That isn't news, it's been discussed here before. What it IS about (just to be clear) is that the alternative (the ONLY alternative) is a company that stores your cc info. Now as some have pointed out, that practice not new, and it isn't. What IS different, is you have no access to your cc at that location should you want to remove that number. At ALL the other sites that store my cc, I can log into my account and change, remove or add a cc to that account. So if I suspect there is an issue (i.e. a company getting hacked), or I start not trusting the company, I still have the option to remove my info. From what I can gather from JV (and I only have JV's word to go on with this, but I'm not sure it's entirely accurate for various reasons), you do not have this option with Stripes. There is no access to your confidential info that Stripes is storing. THAT is the issue and THAT is what my post was about.
Now, according to one, this is "old news". Well geeee, I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed here, but I guess I got reminded of that in no uncertain terms. Still, for those of us (or maybe it's just me) who didn't know about this, it might have been nice had that someone maybe posted something about all this when THEY found out so it would have given those of us who don't hang out at Orbx every day a head's up about this so we'd know what was going on. At least then we can make an informed decision. I have used their system and I just thought they had a neat new interface. Nowhere was there a message saying your cc info would be stored and that you would not have access to that info after the transaction, or if there is a way, nowhere did they tell you how to go in and amend your cc info after the fact. I may or may not have made the purchase knowing all this, but at least I would have known what I was getting into.
Ultimately my post (now deleted) was nothing more than a "Public Service Announcement". Yes there was a bit of a commentary on what I was posting by me, but this a "forum" after all (you know, a place to exchange ideas and thoughts). Back where I come from, if someone tries to do a good turn, people tend to say thank you. Or maybe, "Yes, knew about that but thanks for the reminder/head's up". They don't beat the guy over the head with it, or make him feel like an idiot by telling him it's old news, which is what I feel is happening here. That especially stings since I thought I was among friends here. Thanks. Believe me, I won't make that mistake again.

Mark me confused. Have no clue what Stripe is or how it works, I have purchased a total of 26 scenery downloads from ORBX and have used the same CC each time and ORBX doesn't store the info I have to re-enter it for every purchse session. Never have had a bit of a prolem in all these years. As for Pay Pal I used that once about 10 years ago to purchase a Railroad route for Train Simulator. All I can remember was that somehow my CC was involved so PP got its money but about all I actually remember was that I had no idea how it worked. Like our Viet Namese allies it it has more than one water bufflo on the front its overpowered to me.
