Well, back in the big'un's again. Today's marathon was a full load out of Trondheim for Anchorage. Seven point two hours almost over the pole. It was kind of neat actually, the 777 automatically switches its heading reference to True at some point. That's cool. Anyway, it wasn't long after takeoff that it started getting dark. The takeoff was mid-morning, landing in Anchorage at a bit before the time we took off. Very weird. The sun (or even light) had yet to make an appearance in Anchorage as we were on approach. It was a great flight, not many pics though due to the darkness, but I got a few. Have a gander:
Loading up at the cargo ramp in Trondheim. Runway here is plenty long enough at 9700 ft
It was light out as we climbed out over the broken cloud deck over Trondheim
I stepped outside to grab a couple of shots
Nice, low sun as we headed north, climbing for 280 initially.
We stepped climbed 3 times in this flight; first from 280 to 320, then to 340 and finally to 360. We're getting pretty north by this time and the light is gone.
High over Greenland somewhere, the moon made for a nice backdrop
A looong time later we were on approach and were able to pick out the lights in Anchorage from about 15 miles out.
Close final. Finally!
Down and parked. The cargo door is just in the process of opening.
Not sure what's next from here. Probably a Dash 8 run down the coast, but I do know I've got another 777 run from Vancouver to Bangor, then back to the UK later this week. Lots of flying at this point!
See you next trip
