Well, what with the sale and the new Norway stuff, I couldn't hold out any longer and I finally installed FTXC v3 and I had no trouble at all with either the installation or the migration of my FSS info over to OrbxDirect. That was the good part. When I went to download the update for the Europe LC, the DL speeds were absurd. Not only slow but wildly fluctuating. From speeds like 25 Kb/s to a blazing 600 Kb/s but nothing much better than that. It took hours for less than 2Gb. I don't know why we can't use a download manager like we could with FSS. Nothing for it, though, Orbx has us over a barrel if we want to keep on using their stuff. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Sigh.

The D/L speeds apparently vary wildly from abismal to very fast according to posts on ORBX site. I just purchased 5 regions (all of Great Britian) and had one D/L & Install fail the first attempt. After a retry the 5 regions took about an hour a 3/4 to complete. Not bad but the D/L speed is not very good as far as I'm concerned.

If you do a manual download instead of using FTX Central, you can use a download manager. Manual downloads are done by going to your account page, selecting an airport or whatever, and selecting the manual download link hidden in this sentence "The preferred way to download this product is with the "Download via FTX Central" button above. However, if you are unable to download the product via FTX Central, you can use the manual download (but we strongly recommend using FTX Central)." The words "manual download" are the link. LOL Sue

I had the same thing Fritz. Now, are you using the CDN server (in settings I believe)? That one is nuts. 5 MB/S one minute, 5 KB/S the next (and for most of it). I unchecked that and got less fluctuation, but it was never more than 2 MB/S and always more than 100 KB/S. It's still too long and yeah, they need to fix this. I knew about the manual D/L, but what happens at the other end? Will FTXC see it and be able to install it? I'm not sure so I stuck with the FTXC method, as slow as it is. On the good side, Songdal came in quite quickly.

LOL Sue Sue, your post reads the same as on the ORBX site but I have never seen the screen with this text at any time. I kept missing the part about the account page. I thought when you logged in that was the account page. Now I see how to do a manual download. Only problem is you still have to use FTX Central v3 to install the program as far as I can see.

I made a big mistake this AM.
I bought the Norway scenery while the sale lasts and tried to download it ... I decided to go with FTX Central as I have had good luck with stuff I have got lately. BUT, today the speed started out at 3.32 MBS, and I thought Hot Damn !! here we go. Then the Fit hit the Shan; now, 2 hrs later I am down to 28.68 KB/s, and it looks like at least 2hrs left to go. I am unable to understand, that while Orbx strongly recommends using FTX Central and have a sale of their products why we their customers should have to put up with this performance, particularily considering JV's latest orations. Sorry, but, I don't have much Xmas spirit right now.
Carm. PS -- and its still snowing.

Might I suggest you go to their forum and ask why your D/L speeds are so slow. If they say they already know about it (and they surely do), just tell 'em that you know they know, but you're a customer and a pissed off one at that, and that gives you the right to bitch at their service. Nothing will get done, but if it will make you feel better, why not. I was very tempted to get another couple of sceneries myself, but have decided I'm not going to live long enough to see them get in, so I'm holding off until they fix this. Assuming they do. The strange thing is, it's not rocket science anymore to up bandwidth. Cable companies do it every day. If they can't figure it out, then they need to pass it over to someone who does. Seems a simple concept, but that apparently is one concept that is escaping JV. I just hope he's not being tight fisted and that's why we're all paying. He might save a dollar now, but it will cost him hundreds (if not thousands) later.

FWIW I decided to finish buying all of the ORBX regions I did not have. Last night I logged on to ORBX Direct and bought England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland. Opted to D/L and Install via FTX Central v3. Put them all in the Que and started watching the progress bar creep across the Central screen. It was getting late so I went to bed as it got tiresome watching nothing happen and haveing the 'time remaining' lie to me. Check about 45 min. Later and England D/L install 'had a problem and had quit. So re-started the D/L install again and went back to bed to check later. After 3.5 hrs. total from starting the 5 regions, including time waiting for me to restart England, were installed and working. Nothing as good as the old FSS installer method but with the size of the regions not too bad. D/L speed is still abismal IMO and the complaints keep being reported at ORBX. ATM I think JV's post about 'some'are experiencing slow D/L is about the extent of the fix were going to see.

Guys, it's easy, once you have the downloaded zip, (stashed in a named folder because the zip name is gibberish) just tell FXTC that you have it, and point it to the folder. Voila ! Sue

Sue - could you expand on that. My brain is synched with 'CDN' download speed.
