Ain't we got fun. ORBX announced that they will no longer use PayPal for payments due to dispute of some kind (business secrets ya know) The General fourum is smoking with over 150 mostly bitch n' grip posts so far. The way some folks are posting I'm betting there will be a whole bunch of suspensions by tomorrow. Alex Geoff is acting as spokesperson for ORBX as JV is being quiet as a mouse.

I just jumped in over there. If I try to use my credit card for a purchase from Australia, my bank freaks, and locks the card. If I can't use Pay Pal, I can't buy from OrbX ! Sue

Sue Time to get another bank I'd say. Probably to busy too figure the exchange rate. As I recall early on I had one call from one card bank about overseas purchases just to be sure it was legit.

PayPal seems to be going out of favor for a lot of people lately. I've seen other sites that have cancelled PayPal recently. But any bank that won't allow overseas transactions ain't much of a bank, my view.

I have Bank of America too. They send me a text message now asking for confirmation of purchase. That usually sorts it out fast. I've noticed it a lot more lately. Had it with Carenado also. I haven't used Paypal for awhile. I never had any problems when I did use it, but my fiancé recently had her account hacked and had to shut it down.

Walmart up here has a connection with Mastercard, so they are slowly starting to refuse VISA in many of the stores across Canada. A LOT of people have just shrugged and said, "No problem. I just go across the street for the whatzits I want." Unfortunately we can't do that with Orbx. I don't really know what my feelings are about PP. I have an account, and I do use it from time to time, but I wouldn't sweat it if that account wasn't there. That said, a LOT of people on the web do use it but from the sounds of it, that could be becoming a bit of an issue for a number of vendors. Nice to see the banks protecting against possible fraud though by checking your transactions, but still a pain. I've never had an issue buying from Chile or Australia myself, but those vendors come up a lot on my cc so I guess the banks just roll their eyes and think, "Yup, he STILL hasn't learned. Oh well... ."

After a long and detailed study of this matter (reading the thread), it seems to me that JV is justified - it's his initial outpouring(burst) that, as usual, gets the mob in a frenzy. No one shoots himself in the foot more accurately and often than good old JV.

Well, assuming we can take that at face value (there are usually 2 sides to everything), that really sucks. If it does pan out that PP is screwing them, then we have to worry that they can do the same to us, although circumstances are very different as a user and not a merchant. I wouldn't be adverse to closing my PP account though if things go south.

No one shoots himself in the foot more accurately and often than good old JV. I'll have to defend JV somewhat in this instance. Ed posted (closed post) that PayPal was not going to be a pay option at ORBX. No explanation or reason. Of course the proverbial shit hit the fan. Strange however I just checked ORBX forum and the only post I can find there now are Ed's and the post by JV I linked to earlier. Seems like the entire thread (about 200 posts) has gone missing. I did have a bit of a problem trying to logon with a "Resource Limit Reached" error popping up three times trying to log on. I suspect that was due to the above 'corrections' being made as I tried to logon.

I understand using their card can be very "constrictive". (I heard that... )
