FTX LC Alaska/Canada update. Does anyone remember that there was a problem with getting that update to download from FTX Central 3 . [It kept asking for a License number] . I noticed that the update notice has disappeared. Anyone got an idea why ? Carm.

Carm, FTX LC Alaska/Canada is something that ORBX is trying to sort out. The original ORBX Direct did not include Alaska/Canada due to the fact that it was provided as a temporary LC for those customers who had SAK. It was provided with the info that it would be superceded by FTX LC North America which includes all of Alaska/Canada LC plus LC for all of North America. If you did purchase Alaska/Canada you would be given a discount on LC North America due to the overlap. There were many bitch n' gripe posts from those who did not understand the temporary nature of Alaska/Canada and missed the discount when LC North America was released. Because of the temp. nature of Alaska/Canada it was not originally ported over from the FSS. If you have LC North America you do not need the old Alaska/Canada. Of course the s**t hit the fan and at present ORBX is 'working' on the problem and its somewhat 'up in the air'. The best solution is to buy LC North America install it and it includes all the Alaska/Canada files and you do not require the old temp. Alaska/Canada.

Sounds like a case of "Hoist on your own (Orbx's) petard" to me .

Seems like they should re-offer the discount at this point.

They told people for six months, that the discount would be available for thirty days when the full NA landclass package was released. If no one believed them, or paid attention, it's certainly not their fault. There was plenty of warning. Sue

Good point Sue. I bought North America as soon as it came out to take advantage of the discount. It was pretty well announced . =Scott

OK, but let me ask you for something here Spud. Can you please link me to the thread/post where Orbx specifically stated that you HAD to upgrade to the full NA package or go with nothing for NA once the lower 48 came out? That would mean that if you paid the $$ for just AK/Canada, you understood you would lose that money once the full NA came out if you chose not to go with the lower 48. If they did outright say that, then your point is well taken. If they didn't, then people bought something that they can no longer use under FTXC3, as I understand it. I did buy the lower 48 before the upgrade to FTXC3 so it wasn't an issue for me, but I know a number of people that never fly south of the 48th and never had any intention of getting the next package, but instead were happy with just AK/Canada. I can understand not being able to purchase just that now, but Orbx had to make it clear before they bought just AK/Canada that there would be no option about upgrading down the road - it would be mandatory or nothing. I also am wondering why the time limit on the discount. People paid the price for AK/Canada and that hasn't changed over time. It's not like they "unpaid" it after 30 days or whatever. Maybe I'm not getting something here? Wouldn't be the first time.

I'm curious about this as well. I bought AK/CA LC when it came out and upgraded to NA LC as soon as it was released so like Glenn, it didn't affect me. But who gives a rats ass if they bundled the whole thing and who gives a rats ass if they offered it as a time limited discount? It has nothing to do with the question people are asking. They didn't want the lower 48, they didn't want Mexico and the Caribbean, they want what they paid for. I don't remember Orbx saying you'd lose the scenery you paid for if you didn't want to upgrade to the bundled version.

I understand the concern about Alaska/Canada - North America concerns particularly by those folks who bought Alasda/Canada and for whatever reason never took advantage of the 30 day discount for the updated North America. When the offer was made all ORBX products were being sold by the FlightSimStore. ORBX decided to introduce ORBX Direct less than 2 months ago and that entailed all your ORBX software being moved from the FSS to ORBX Direct. This occurred well after the discount period was over and due to the Alaska/Canada software being superceded by North America it was not included in the switch over. There are many unhappy folks about that and ORBX site says it is working on the problem. Just a WAG but I'm betting there wont be any discount for those that buy North America. There was never a post that said you had to go with nothing if you didn't buy North America, that was a 'victim' so to speak, of an OVERSITE by the way switch was made. As a matter of fact ORBX actually put their software back in the flghtsim store for about a week so those with only Alaska/Canada could add the software via Central v3. It was again removed from the FSS and the mess that exists at this time is the result. ORBX made the transition too quickly IMO and are still trying to catch up. Hopefully there will be a resolution in the future. As ORBX has a database of what you purchased it seems to me that it would be fairly easy to offer Alaska/Canada to anyone who bought it via the FSS. The pointy heads can't seem to figure out some folks just want what they paid for instead of 'my way or the highway' that ORBX seems to prefer.

Besides, if it is installed, it still works. If you have the FSS installer, it still works too. PLOM disease indeed. Sue

Really? I heard the FSS installer wouldn't function now (source - Orbx). Is that not the case?

As far as I know once the files are migrated to ORBX Direct from the FSS the installer will not function any longer. For a limited time ORBX had re-established the file to FSS because of problems with ORBX Direct. I look at my FSS account and only the purchases that are non-ORBX are now showing. (IE: Pilots 2010 FTX Compatible MESH etc.) I had the unfortunate experience of a HD replacement just a week or so before the 'big switch' and decided to wait for the 'new' system to re-install everything and wiped out my old FSS installers as ORBX said they would no longer function.
