Rarely take screenshot myself. In fact I never view any of the screenshot forums at ORBX et al. Used to years ago but it soon became apparent they are not really screen shots but highly doctored and manipulated artistry with everyone trying to outshine the last guy. I do view them here however because they are usually part of a narative and provied backgrond and almost always are truly screen shots.

All my screenshots are 'doctored' because I enjoy it. Many of those I see which claim 'straight from the 'V' key, I view with a mixture of envy and suspicion. My setup can't seem to produce that level of quality without some help.

Nothing wrong with that Dave. It's more about others seeing members flying, which in turn gives inspiration to the rest of the group. Man, when Alaska By Don was founded, we'd see several PIREP's a day! I'm not saying we could ever go back to that, but it is really great to see what others are doing (besides trying to solve Orbx issues, that is ). I know that gets my juices flowing and helps me come up with other ideas for a flight.

As I said I occasionally take screenshot but not on a regular basis. Attached is one I made while checking out phase two (Richardson Highway) of the RTMM Alaska Pipeline. Soon to be released. (click to enlarge) Attachments:

Now that has a lot of vibrance for a straight 'V' shot. Must be bad adjustments on my monitor - maybe a few ideas would help .

It's a great shot! Nice one. Dave, you probably already know this, but each display is going to make images look different. Especially images on the web, which are not colour managed, but even with that, unless you have a calibrated display (and have calibrated it about every month), what you see can be different to what Spud sees, which can be different to what I'll see, etc. That has been one of the biggest issues we photographers have had to deal with since the digital age made it to the camera world. All of us (at least those of us who submit for publication) have had to spend a few pennies (being sarcastic there - this stuff is expensive!) on display calibration devices to make sure that what our editors see is what we sent them, and not some display's idea of what the images should look like. It's been tricky, to say the least. Anywho, as I say I'm probably preaching to the choir but for the benefit of those who are blissfully ignorant of such things (and lucky you!), this might be of some interest .

Yeah, I'm guilty of not posting screenshots anymore. I began to feel that all of my shots just looked alike, somehow, so I just quit taking them. I am fairly busy with my work as well and don't even fly at all some days but that doesn't mean I'm not still interested. I shall make more of an effort. Puleeeze, I'm the king of alike looking screenshots. Always at dawn, ramp, gear coming up, enroute, back on the ramp. Over and over. I think that award goes to me.

The second one does look better, although the first one is maybe more natural (whatever that means). Bottom line is though, do what you like best. There are no rules for this. If something is working for you, stay with it. I like your shots however you do them .
