Yeah, well, I'm sorry. It's the same old song, ya know it? "It's only a minority experiencing this anomaly and most users are very happy with our new fantastic system", then they brag about how much money they're spending and continue on about it might be your fault anyway and then the kicker; "Over the next week or so we will likely have to devise a bandwidth test for customers with this issue - and with in partnership with Rackspace try to find the cause of the bottleneck." So now we have to help them troubleshoot? I dunno, folks, first there was Tongass Fjords,, one of the first scenery's that had that great resolution and incorporated all the little boats and ferries and birds and what have you. Then some things happened and Orbx came along with a fantastic product and everyone went wild. With reason. But over the years, as their products became more and more accepted as the norm, their attitude to the hobby changed, as well as the way they treat their customers and how they have turned their forum into a cheering section. This latest nonsense is just one more step. You will notice, please, that this time JV has carefully softened his language but the message remains the same; "we're very sorry but it's only a few of you, we're working on it." My view only, of course.

Spot on Fritz, IMO. Interesting how it's only a "few" yet every single FS forum is riddled with Orbx complaints. They make great scenery but unfortunately it's encroached on everyone's FS system to the point where you can no longer extract it from FSX without a reinstall. At that point, you either put up with their poorly executed migration programming and DL speeds or you basically forfeit the money you've invested. Every single product they've made should have come with an uninstaller.
Just one persons view, but at this point I have not done the recent FSS to Orbx migration and don't intend to until when/if they get this straightened out. My sim is humming along, there's no scenery I'm interested in adding so I'm content knowing my sim may be frozen in time far as scenery goes. As someone at Avsim said, "retail is hard". Orbx might have bitten off more than they can chew. Unfortunately their ego will never let them admit that no matter how many disenfranchised customers they have.

It took me about an hour to d/l a gig or so. That is nuts in this day and age. I hope they figure out a way to pick it up a bit. Just think if we had dial-up!!! LOL

Last time I pinged my Comcast modem, it said 88 mbsec - not bad but, with Internet Download Manager and their old CDN 1 mirror, I got only 10-12 mbsec. Still reasonably fast but now, with the upgraded, state of the art Central V3, I'm down to 2-3 mbsec with the occasional lapse to 50 kbsec. Now that's progress.

I have not gone over to FTX v3 and the Orbx Store and have no intention of doing so until things get a lot better. I have what I have and frankly, I'm content for it to remain that way for now. I spend too much money on FSX, anyway.

Just as I was believing that light at the end of the tunnel wasn't a train, I'm downloading a couple of updates - currently 2.72 kbsec and holding but wait, five minutes later is up to 13.54 kbsec.

Olderthan did you go to "settings" in FTX Central and check the "use Orbx CDN" box, then click on the save button underneath that section? If that's on, and slow, try unchecking it. LOL Sue

I used the CDN D/L option and was seeing D/L speeds similar to Dave's. Actually, I'd get 5 mb/s for the first third, less than 100 kb/s for the rest until at about 90% then it would pick up again. I unchecked that box and saw more consistent results, varying between about 200 kb/s and 2 mb/s, with the majority of the time being around 1 mb/s. Pretty small sample size though so I can't say how often that difference would appear.
