Hmmph. Fix the problem, close the road again for 5 minutes and takeoff . It's the longest runway that airplane will ever see .

With those bent wings, maybe a Jodel or perhaps just a really hard landing.

Well, if he got it in, he could get it out. He'd have to be mindful of the wires, but otherwise the highway is certainly wide enough. Too bad - that's an expensive extraction, but probably safer all things considered I guess.

Oh, c'mon, gentlemen, there ain't no way that the autoroute would be closed to let an airplane take off for the benefit of the media.

Maybe not over there Fritz but, I well remember a while back when a Turbo Beaver licenced CF-ETN lifted out of CYKZ and just a few minutes later lost its engine. There happened to be a Freeway called the 404 just below and they set down on it. The A/C was towed to the front yard a locals estate. Where the A/C's tanks were filled with fuel. A few days later the Provincial police stopped traffic on the freeway so that A/C could, and did take off and continued on to the owners cottage in Muskoka. Money and 'Name' does have their 'advantages'.

Years ago I knew a guy with a Pacer who landed on the Anchorage Fairbanks highway because the gas he needed to reach his destination was in a can behind the seat (and a tractor funnel complete with 'shammy'). Added the gas then took off with never a vehicle in sight.
