Being the boss has its merits. I get to fly whatever I want, and 9 times out of 10 it will be the DC 3. Today's flight was people and freight to Chenega Bay, about 70 nm SW of Cordova. We'd be IFR most of the way, then descending down to where we could hopefully find the airport in the crud. That was to prove to be the "interesting part". Going out we were a hair over 24000 lbs, coming back much lighter at 21 and change. The runway there is 3,000 ft so lots of room for the "3". I'd never been there before though, so that too would make it interesting. Loading up on the ramp. This is a big airplane when standing next to it. Climbing up through the goup, we finally get more or less on top at around 7000 ft Incredible scenery up this way, with the typical fog and clouds down below Gotta love Alaskan Panhandle weather! More beautiful skyscapes courtesy Alaska and AS2016/ASCA Seeing a few breaks on the way. Decided to step outside for a smoke Finally breaking free of the higher clouds leaving a beautiful carpet of cloud underneath. Unfortunately, that stuff went most of the way to the ground! Seeing a few of the taller peaks poking through So,I got a little busy after breaking out of the overcast at (rather a low altitude...) "minimums" and managed to locate the airport. I had to keep the circuit tight due to the fog banks in the area. Fortunately the DC 3 is slow and maneuverable which helped immensely. Chenega. More to come.

The return flight was easier as I knew we had an IFR airport to go to should things crap out on us. The weather was pretty foggy in parts around here. We were on the ground for about 25 minutes which allowed me to grab some snaps Love the scenery. This airplane fits right in. Climbing out from Chenega, I made a left turn to give me some room to climb before turning on course Still more beautiful scenery on the way back. That's Cordova townsite you see at the opening there I love the play of shadow from the clouds on the water in coastal areas It wasn't long before the huge delta the outflow of the Copper River caused came into view. Talk about a wild and formidable landscape! Downwind for Cordova/Mudhole airport On final now Down and parked for the night. Great flight!!

That's a good paint job! (I'm still trying to find all the antennas and scoops and insides of the oil cooler and stuff like that. I can't understand why those kinds of things are so often hidden)

PS - I agree whole heartedly with you Todd. After the DC 3, it's going to be hard to buy anything in the way of aircraft now. I still love all A2A stuff, but they and PMDG are the only ones to surpass this airplane, and even then, not by a whole lot. I WILL get the PMDG DC 6 when it's released though!

Thanks guys. Yeah Fritz, I have some yellow on the engines that shouldn't be there, so I have to find that. As for the antennae though, they should never be painted (IRL or in FS) so I don't worry about those so much. They do hide those things well though, eh? Just ask anyone who's tried to paint a Carenado airplane <LOL>.

Ya man totally. I have always thought about doing a DC-3 centered operation every since I found DC-3 Airways years ago. Always seemed like a really cool thing. I love the big slow planes especially the classic ones.
To add the PMDG DC-6 will be perfect!

Fritz, I remember seeing a post from you about the V3 of the paint kit for the DC 3 and now I can't find it. You probably have it, but just in case, you can get it here. You probably have to be signed into Sim-Outhouse to see it, but it's there. Sorry if this is a repeat link/message (I'm getting old in my old age )

Yeah, but you know that I'm not real. You'd better tell Sue that (see "Parriah")! She is getting her hopes up, ya know. Actually, sounds like Carm is too. Geeez, I think we're in trouble....

Higher resolution or something. bushpounders.proboards.com/thread/1460/northwoods-cargo-dc-3-v3?page=2&scrollTo=11337 (towards the end)

That is that kit Fritz. It's 4096 x 4096, and the blank textures I linked to you also include the weathered skins.
