Mississippi Kites are raptors about the size of Red-Tailed Hawks. Every Spring they arrive in Roswell to nest in our trees. Many of them nest in the trees in the park across the street from my house.
I spotted this nest and watched and photographed it all summer as mama Kite built the nest and then sat on the egg and hatched the chick. I watched it grow to a fledgling.
Kites are very protective of their trees and nests and when you get too close they 'buzz' you, sometimes getting close enough to knock your hat off.
I photographed one such 'attack' as I stood under the tree taking pictures of the fledgling. I heard 'the wind in her wings' as she zoomed just few inches over the top of my head.
