Just an unrelated question. How often to you have to replace the tires on a tubeliner? Back when I was flying a lot I remember tires failing on landing now and again, (you could actually hear it sometimes but mostly it went unperceived by us passengers), but it was considered sort of an ordinary event. Just wondering.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess as needed or by cycles. Airplane tires pretty much are like car tires. When they start to look worn, threads showing, dry rot, etc., they are replaced. I am not sure if the airlines use a tighter system, cycles, % of use, etc. to mark a change.

I think they are replaced on the number of cycles, if I remember my ramp rat days correctly. FYI, those will be roughly 36 ply tires on the 727 and 737. I don't know about bigger or more modern machines.

LOL! Yep! I brought the old AAA map this time!! P-3 and Prowler country! BP;) My uncle flew P-3's out of there ... Along with all the other P-3 places of interest; Beesville, Tx., Jacksonville, Fl., Gitmo, Iceland, etc. Started with P2V's in 'Nam. When I was just a kid, he got me a really cheesy publication from the Guantanamo station. Showed how nice and lovely the place was. My aunt then related stories of listening to the land mines go 'boom!' when the local critters wandered into the mine fields around the place. She preferred Iceland.
