FSX cfg tweaks

Over the years I've tweaked the FSX cfg any number of times, often with no discernable change or even negative effects.  Now that I have a much better machine and a clean install of FSX, I'm wondering if I should just leave well enough alone.  I did put in the HIGHMEM=1 fix but I've changed nothing else.  Anyone have any observations or suggestions?  Thanks.

Well, you can always back up that file then play around with the copy. That way if you don't see anything positive, you can simply delete the copy and go back to the original. I've used Bjote's services once or twice. Hard to say now if it made any difference, but it might have. Might be worth a try.

I used Bjote's tool in the past but it's offline now.  I still have copies of my old cfg files that were tweaked using that tool, perhaps it's worth having a look to see if there are some things that might be useful.  ASNext wanted to change the "AffintyMask", so I let that get changed.  Problem is, for a lot of those changes I don't recall what they were for.

Do you ever feel that all these add-on's are playing a game of "tug-of-war" with FS? I do. I know some (myself included) have had a few problems of late with ASN so who knows if it's undoing a bunch of settings that others have made? Anyway, I don't know what an AffinityMask is, never mind what it does, so who knows if that's making a difference to your performance. I don't recall what those fixes/adjustments are, never mind what they do from way back. Probably at this point, if it's working then leave well enough alone. Or, do like I do, and "fix" it until it IS broken .

Yeah, I agree.  I don't know what an AffintyMask is either but when I installed ASN, a window popped up that said that I had to have it or ASN wouldn't work.  It was either click "yes" or quit the install.  And you're right, I have often fixed things until they break, much to my chagrin!   I guess I'll just let things ride and see what happens.  I'm going to leave a lot of things out of my new install of FSX that I had before in hopes of streamlining things a bit.

Yes, I seem to recall that ASN did require that and it wasn't necessarily part of the root FS program.

Only one thing I'm leaving out of my next reinstall. FSX

  Be jiggered if I could find a picture of my favourite ' Nector of the Gods' which is---  ' Redbreast' 12 year old Single Pot Still, Irish Whiskey. 

   With just a swipe of cool water over a glass of this lovely stuff, can't be beat for sippin while sitting on the deck in the evening with a good friend.
