A Snag

I've got an intermittent snag on my sim that has been bugging me for a long time. Sometimes when I go to an airport and activate the Slew mode the A/C takes off at the 'high port' to places over the horizon. The only way to stop it is to get out of Slew mode. I've tried unplugging the yoke when this happens but that doesn't cure the runaway. While the A/C is charging like a mad thing over the horizon it can be somewhat controlled with the yoke to a stop. I've had this bug in my system as I said for a long time and now its 'getting to me'. If I was to guess I'd say it's got something to do with my CH Yoke. I've tried jiggling the yoke through its modes to ensure that its in a neutral position, but that's no cure either Anybody got an idea what's up ? Cheers, Carm.

I've had that one for a long time as well. It's something to do with the joystick. I don't know how to fix it but you can get around it by pressing "Ctrl+K" before entering slew mode. That disables the joystick so the thing doesn't take off for the boonies. Then after you leave slew mode, press Ctrl+K again to re-enable the joystick.

I never knew about the Ctrl-K thing for disabling joysticks. I always unmapped all the slew assignments from all my yokes, quadrants, and pedals. CTRL-K would have been much easier. Thanks for the tip Fritz!

I'll try that suggestion Fritz, Thanks. I once though that it was the slew 'key' on the keyboard that was sticking or was broken. I then selected different key for the Slew function,.,that solved the prob for quite a while a long time. Cheers Carm.

You're welcome, Scott. Yeah, it's easier. Ctrl+K for disable/enable joystick and "Y" for entering/leaving slew mode.

I can tell you the problem with the A/C zooming off like a scalded A$$ ape when you engage the SLEW mode, but it will cost ya 25 cents! Actually what the problem is, is that your yoke trim is no centered to a null point. Go into slew and the sim sees a command to move due to forward trim set in the yoke. It seems to be super sensitive for some godforsaken reason. It is similar to slewing down to water in a land A/C and as soon as you come out of slew the A/C takes off at full power etc.

After a few beverages, it's fun to click that 'Y' then go to the menu 'map' and see where I ended up.

Carm, the CH yoke has a "master trim" wheel built in. Using Spud's idea, see if your sim is slewing, and then simply adjust the trim wheel (big thumbwheel on left side of yoke body) to centre it. You also should run the calibration procedure from within FS (Settings>Controls>Calibrate) to make sure all your controls are centred at rest. I don't think there's anything wrong with your devices. They just need calibrating.

Thanks for the suggestion Glenn. Over the years I have done that several times, and all is well for a while, then away we go again. I've done the trim wheel centering and calibration things again tonight,---- Lets hope this will be the last Carm.

Having to do it periodically is normal Carm. Through use it gradually goes out of cal and then you have to go through the process again. The clue you need to do it is exactly what you are seeing (the "snag" you reported). Once done you should be good for a while, but a "while" can be anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months, depending on the age of your equipment.
