Glenn, do you remember just a while ago where you commented on the tendency of Carenado to do the most obscure models? I think you are right; all the real airplanes that are available to them are old, strange and/or "modified". I guess they do what they can with what they have. Still ... for 59.95 or whatever they want this time, I would expect more. My view only, sure.
A good point to be sure. However, some things are easily adjusted for. When I did a search for that style of throttle quadrant, I could only find one out of a couple of hundred Aztec photos that I found; and as I say, we've had Aztecs of almost every description in our hangar and between those and the ones I flew, I've never seen a quadrant like that. Now, if I were doing these things for FSX, I'd look at the model I have and then look online to see what the majority of the aircraft have. If they match, great. If not, and mine was a "one-of" (or close to it), then I think I'd modify my design to appeal to the largest majority of people I could. This, by the by, is A2A's model, FWIW. They deviated slightly from something in their own aircraft to the majority of what's found, but I don't remember now exactly what that was. In all, it's fairly easy to do. Case in point - I had an image published by a nature organization that had a moon over Algonquin Park. Now it was a night scene so in order to expose the ground (it was winter) properly, the moon came out somewhat elongated (luckily its exposure also turned out ok due to a thin cloud cover - doesn't work out that way very often). So I simply "reshaped" the moon to a circle the way we see it (it was elongated to do a long exposure time), and voila. It didn't take very long and was quite easy to do. My point is, if they do just a wee bit of research, Alabeo will realize that what they have is an oddity that probably the vast majority of people have never seen. It really wouldn't take much to reshape and resize that throttle quadrant to a "standard" design, giving the majority of RW pilots something they are more familiar with. However, it's been my experience that anything that requires the least amount of extra effort is not something Alabeo or Carenado is interested in. They simply don't care. They are pretty much reduced to selling toys at simulator prices and then walking away. Believe me, I had first hand experience with that attitude when I was trying to get them to add the grab handles to the 185. Their answer? "Only a real pilot would notice that." so they didn't do it. Well, yeah. I'm a real pilot, and I'm also a customer. It was at that point that Bernt and I branched off on our own and simply cut Carenado out of the picture. That was also the point in time when I lost most of my respect for them (and of late, all respect). Sadly, they are the only game in town. That leaves us with very little choice, and they know it. Boy, do they know it!
Insofar as them only doing things they have actual access to, I wonder how many F406's are in Chile? They are a pretty rare bird. How many Hawker's have they had access to? Those are usually pretty hard to gain access to, and almost impossible to get a ride in. I know that's their line, but if you look at their more recent lineup of jets, are they REALLY getting time in those aircraft? Indeed, have they even SEEN one of those airplanes, outside of pictures and videos? I wonder. I can tell you one thing, they have no clue as to how avionics really work.
Anyway, I've said far too much on the topic of Alabeo and Carenado; and swore I would keep this shit to myself. I only broke that "rule" because now they are screwing with the airplane I wanted most in FSX, and like the Navajo and 206 before that, it pisses me off even more than usual.
By the by, I have converted the Turbo 206 to a stock model if anyone is interested. You can now set power by sounds alone (how we really do it after takeoff at least) and the performance is pretty close to the real thing. If anyone is interested, I'll share my aircraft.cfg settings with you to accomplish that. Probably only RW pilots will care about that, which is fine. I plan to do the same thing with the Navajo.
OK, enough of my dribble. Sorry if I ruined anyone's day .
