Well, what would a Tuesday be without a new ops . Except that's not happening this time. Nor will it again (yeah, yeah, I know, but this time I mean it!).
A while back I tried an experiment where I didn't run an ops at all, but just flew for the fun of it. Well, since then I've tried ops up the wazoo. Long ago (or so it seems) I couldn't fly FS without an ops. Just the way I was wired I guess. I had to have a reason for flying. The trouble is, I've not been able to make anything stick for a very long time now. I've tried big ops, small ops, fast ops, slow ops, op ops, non-op ops; the list is endless(ly boring). And so I'm calling it quits, NO, not from FSX! That's still going (reasonably) strong for me (I heard that ).
One thing I've learned over the time since my operation (whatever that has to do with it) is that I like flying small stuff that's not too fast and doesn't go all that high. That said, I'm not really into the bush stuff that much now (as good as Orbx is, nobody can produce really good ground textures over anything more than a local airport). Don't get me wrong - I still like flying in remote areas, but for the most part FSX isn't up to it. So ground hugging isn't the way to go either, and frankly, I do like IFR flying when it's called for.
So, the decision is made. I'm going to be a private pilot (again) as that (over recent time) seems to be what I get the biggest kick out of. However, I still need a reason to fly and to go places (and places to go). If I limit myself to too small an area, I'll get bored silly before long, especially without something in my warped little mind (or what's left of it) for a reason to go in the first place. Now IRL I'm a nature photographer and budding digital artist. Now THAT is a good reason to travel to different places. To gather materials (photos) for my next project. My RW photography is conservation oriented and much of my work has been published by nature organizations and in nature books. I need to get back to doing that more frequently and as crazy as it sounds, FS might help facilitate that in a very weird sort of way. And so it is, I'm "op-less" but not without a reason to fly. I'll pick a home base (won't be where I live IRL) and branch out from there. I'll own a couple of private airplanes suitable for this type of work. When I want to go further afield where I need to get their via the virtual airlines, I'll rent a plane there and tour the area in that. That keeps in enough decent machines to keep me from getting bored and keeps me seeing different areas (and yeah, gives me a reason to buy still more crap for FSX ).
There you have it. No more Ops, no more Tuesdays (well, insofar as... well, you know ). I will post screenies and a few PIREP's of my exploits because I like to read yours so it's only fair I stick some up myself. I am now, however, "officially" a Private (virtually) Pilot again. See you in the Screenshot forum
