Thanks folks, for the replies regarding Opus earlier. I have a few more specific questions now for those of you using it, if you don't mind.
First off, I do realize Opus is going to use whatever cloud textures are in the sim already. That's fine. One thing I find with ASN is there are way too many cumulus clouds (especially up high) that are called on in the north in winter. I've seen cumulus (a couple of thousand feet thick and sometimes more) up above FL300. That's pretty unrealistic for the most part, just as seeing a lot of Cu down low is when it's very cold or if you get a warm front move through. ASN used to have an option to regulate the stratus:cumulus ratio but they have taken that out. Is there anything in Opus that gives you that option (or one similar)? Do you noticed that there are a lot of Cu in Opus in the north during the winter? Are there any options at all related to what clouds appear?
I have read Opus can be really hard on frames. Has anyone noticed this themselves at all?
Lastly (for now), how good is Opus at depicting actual wx conditions, and how smooth are transitions between areas?
Thanks a bunch folks. Appreciate it!

Here's my nickel's worth. Opus seems to use textures offered by REX in a satisfactory manner. The low stuff is in the 7000 and below range and the middles are up to 20000 - cirriform above. Of course it's all about the textures supplied and REX, while good on puffy cumulus is short on stratiform types. Using actual weather I've noticed a transition from the cu's of summer to winter's flatter layers with several flights between well defined separate layers. My frame rates are locked and, the few times I've looked, they've been close. When I first got it, I'd look at the NWS national radar map for red areas then program fsx for that location. All the weather seemed close to reported and transitions as you move along seem smooth and realistic.

This outfit is fairly unique in their timely response to user questions/problems and will update faults on the fly, providing a download without waiting the usual "cooling off" period.

Yeah, that is one major attraction for me. They have had that reputation since Day 1 and it's one that I'm big on. I may give it a go.

I'm going to get it in the new year. Unless it goes on sale.
