From the Tatitna airstrip (we always called it 'the Rhone' after the roadhouse there), Rainy Pass is fairly short - only three major turns. Requires a ceiling of 4000' and fairly decent visiblity.
This is runway 6 at Tatitna - we'll follow the river upstream to the first turn. That tree on the left is, of course, dead center on runway heading - lucky it's a fly-through.
The first turn - you can see the strip back on the right side. The Iditarod Trail comes through here on its way to Nome.
Second turn - you can see that, with good vis, it's not that big a deal.
The third turn is right behind us as we approach the little lake at the summit (3700' - left ski tracks verifying that one winter). Exit is just past the second shadowy ridge on the left. After the initial installation confusion, I'm finding this extremely good scenery.
Out in the wide portion headed for Puntilla Lake. The area going off under the right wing is the Ptarmigan section of the pass - usually a better bet if the weather's chancy.
