Well, one good PIREP deserves another (not sure this is as good as Scott's, but hey... ).
Back in the air ambulance business (never left it, just took a leave of absence, if you will). PNW Air Ambulance ("PNW" stands for Pacific North West) uses King Air B200's, Cessna Mustangs and Cessna 404's mostly in the US northwest (go figure!), Alberta, BC and the Yukon in Canada, and in Alaska. Today's flight was a King Air flight out of Whitehorse (CYXY) up to Dawson (CYDA) to pick up a patient then back to Whitehorse where she could get to a fully serviced hospital. Flight time each way was a tad over an hour, and the weather was good both ways. We took off at dawn, as you'll be able to tell.
On the roll out of Whitehorse, heading north
Climbing out in hazy skies north of Whitehorse
Enroute at our cruising altitude of 25,000 ft
Descending into Dawson. My Navigraph hasn't been updated recently and neither the NDB nor the RNAV approaches showed in the database, which was a little disconcerting. Good thing it was good VFR.
The winds were favouring 03 so using the GPS I descended down through the valley south of the airport and wound my way up to the runway.
This idiot here was nearly a second patient for us to take back. And for the next flight as well, since when one tries to walk into a moving prop, one tends to go "all to pieces" over the experience. Hmmnnn.
On the roll again from Dawson. We climbed out through the valley until all the hills were cleared, then went direct back to CYXY.
Turning southbound to pick up the direct course back.
And about an hour later we were on final for 13R
Patient delivered safe and sound. That's my day done now .
Thanks for looking in.
