Flying the 404 (yet another super populous airplane IRL - NOT!) around Norway with "ScanGo" (Scandinavian Air Cargo). Couldn't resist firing this one back up as well . Shows its age for sure, but that doesn't bother me given it's a cargo pig only. Nice to fly!

Looks like an MD-11 / DC-10. Did you hit a 404 with it?

By the by, Orbx seems to be under the impression that Norway is a permanently frozen landscape (at least the lakes). Someone there needs to brush up on their geography/climatology

How far north were you? Anyroad, Jay would know about that.

Evenes, about halfway up the country on the coast. The lakes are all still frozen down around Bergen and Oslo as well. This country has a maritime climate and while it's quite far north, it's not really cold until you get inland a ways. Remember back to the Murmansk Convoys of WWII. I'm very certain all the lakes except for well inland (maybe between Kirkenes and Tromso) should be open by now.

Yeah, I would think so, too. I thought that Orbx had sorted out those freezing problems. I know that PFJ freezes at different times depending on the altitude, so you'd think that they would have paid attention to Norway as well. Mind you, I could be way off base. I know very little about Norway at first hand. I have only been to Oslo.

Well, I just had a gander at a bunch of webcams in Norway (live), and even up to near the north coast, there is open water, including inland (I'm not including the fjords in that scan for obvious reasons - just freshwater). I can't say all the lakes in the far north are open, but it sure looks like they are mostly ice free. If they are that open that close to Kirkenes, then I can't believe they would still have ice on them in the south. I think you're right - Orbx didn't pay too much attention to the ice thing for Norway, or just assumed because the country was that far north, it would be frozen much of the year. They ought to know better than that if they are doing it as a fat region. I mean, Anchorage has much warmer winters than Toronto so "north" doesn't necessarily mean colder. That Gulf Stream has a major influence on Norway for sure. Jay? What would he know?? He only lives there

I've noticed it's been kinda hard to paddle my kayak on the lakes around here, ice might be the explanation, kinda makes sense now that I think about it.
But yeah, no ice here. Actually we're getting close to seeing the first leaves on trees now, so spring is pretty late where I live.
You sure it's an Orbx problem though? I imagine there'd be a lot of noise at flightsim.no if there was still ice in the sim.

It is late. We're almost summer here (you can tell because we've started getting tornadoes ). However, you are a "tad" north of us

Have you started FTX Central v2 picked Europe region and then to the right of Norway entry clicked on Configure? When the Norway control panel pops up click "Open Water". Should melt some of the 'hard stuff'.

Do you mean that the freezing cycle isn't automatic for Orbx Norway? Curious. EDIT: Yep, that's what it is, freezing is manual. I didn't know that or mebbe just plain forgot, a not infrequent thing, lately. Thanks, Spud.

Yeah, thanks Spud. Found it. Very strange though. Automatic everywhere (including in Global), but not in Norway. This is more a throwback to UTX but without the micro control. Anyway, appreciate the HU.
Now, if you can just tell me how to keep my FTX Central 2 icon, that would be great (I've tried replacing it with the original one, but it won't stick - get the default, generic icon on the desktop only).
