FWIW in the FTX Global - openLC worldwide areas, rollout plan, details forum on the ORBX site JV posted this on 4 July 2014.
Posted 04 July 2014 - 02:20 AM We are aiming for openLC NA within 2014 as previously stated.
I have not seen a more recent post by JV. Where was the post saying Open LC Alaska and Canada would be going to BETA in March. Unless he had a bad day JV doesn't give out date approximations for releases. The best ORBX does is when you see BETA screen shots on the site then a release is getting close.

He posted it in the Release Announcements forum for CNK4 (Parry Sound) (started by Ian Emms) when numerous people commented about how they will wait for OpenLC NA.

Thanks I ignore posts on ORBX Payware airports as I don't use them. I'll have a look as soon as they quit doing maintenance of the site (and OZx) it stops working for short periods many times a day and it seems like its always when I'm on the sites?!?!

Aha finally found the post but it was in the Preview Screenshots and Videos forum which I never access and I posted a question to JV quoting his post.
"John,
can I assume the beta test of Alaska and Canada is only a partial test of NA LC? Or is theNA LC going to broken up into smaller regions and released at different times during the year? Your post was some what vague in this reguard."

I´m reaching the point where I dont longer care if its only CDN and Alaska comming (at a lower price). Thats where I fly the most. This has been waiting, waiting and prommisses. Now they have officially stopped promissing, but it doesnt change the fact that they sold products based on some promisses long time ago. Man, its still in their FTX global manual.
I bought the Global/vector/LC-EU first because I´m european and second because I was promissed thing that didnt come through. If I had known this, maybe i would have made a second or third look at the UTX products.
So, now... lets get something. Even though its just half of what was promissed (half price) and it needs 3 updates .

Promised, I have to disagree with that particular word. Planned at the time would be closer to being accurate. It is alway nice to plan a perfect series of releases and then reality sets in and the scope of the project makes it necessary to pull back from the original plan. IE: series of smaller releases at lower costs ala Global and VECTOR as originally planned which we all know didn't quite work out that way. I'm pretty sure this was one of the main reasons ORBX has returned to its original "no release dates announced" policy. Land Class coding for 3.8 million square miles just can not be done in any 'hurry up' manner and still be satisfactory to users. While like everyone I would like to see it NOW! I would rather wait until as many anomalies/bugs as possible are fixed and thourghly tested rather than the group grope that Pilots VECTOR was at first release. BTW JV has not been on line to provide an answer to my question as of this morning and I have added to the post since then trying to determine what will be released not when.

Here is a cut n' paste of JV's post on the ORBX forums today concerning the LC project that explains in more detail what is going on with the development of the LC areas.
"Posted Today, 03:18 AM We don't give out release dates or even estimates anymore, for the very reason that the posts above (asking the 'when' question) demonstrate. Software development is always a black science. Projects often get delayed many years or even cancelled. If you play games on consoles and PCs you would be familiar with projects being delayed by major studios. All the time.
The original plan for openLC was to do a quick and dirty 1x1km landclass pass only, for those seven worldwide regions, over two years. However when we released openLC Europe there was a significant customer backlash because parts of Europe suffered from too-green areas, had the wrong autogen, needed thousands of villages added, and many more features requested.
So this told us that releasing a simple LC alone was not going to cut it. We had to go much deeper, add much more custom textures, autogen, villages, towns, etc to satisfy the customer expectations. The result is that openLC Europe v1.15 is a much deeper and better looking product now, and that is the approach we're taking with North America.
I believe that openLC NA will be so beautiful to look at that combined with FTX Vector it will finally satisfy many of our NA customers who have been patiently waiting for an FTX region to cover their home state and counties.
Meantime we continue to bring you lots of other products to delight you as a distraction."

Wonder how this relates to the bottom line - price? That'll be a distraction.

Well LC EU costs 31.95 AU$ so I imagine LC NA will be about the same price. Originally I believe ORBX predicted LC software around the $25.00 AU$ per area, but that is more a guess as I really don't remember predicted prices from that long ago. More of intrest to me is that JV's Post mentioned LC Alaska and Canada going into BETA and although I asked if this meant that NA LC would be split into smaller areas and released sequentally or if the BETA test was just for part of a complete NA LC, no answer has been given. I'm leaning to this being the case of NA LC being parcelled out in smaller parts over longer time. Nothing to go on except a gut feeling and being involved with ORBX/VOZ scenery and forums for many years, back before FSX was even released.

OpenLC was originally to be $19 per region in whatever currency you dealt in.

'Original Price' - another fond memory like my ability to write my name in the snow. To paraphrase Churchill, "let us brace ourselves to this new plan" and hope they get it right on the first try.

I´m fine with only Canada/Alaska comming out and if the quality is like LC EU, its fine for me (and if the price is right as well). There are lots of errors in LC EU, but I can live with them and accept that its a sim and not reality. I go for a walk with the dogs every day and thats reality enough for me. LC EU is getting pretty close to how the world looks where I live, where I come from and where I´m used to drive around, but things like size of villages is off. And everything has a very generic look. Europe is old culture, so the difference in architecture etc. can be very big. Even in one country and this you dont see in the sim. But its ok. I can do landmark flying in Europe for the first time, so ORBX gets my thanks because its a huge difference to what I´ve had before. LC NA, especially the USA is a whole different story. Its always been the best develloped sim-world even in default, so Orbx have to do really well there in order to get accepted and i think they know that.

How many Europe's fit in a North America? That should give us a clue. Right off the top of my head. North America 9,540,000 sq miles/Europe 3,930,000 sq miles. 2.43 Europes in North America.

31.95AU$ x 2.43=77.64AU$ Sounds about right. Ouch.
